Recruiting Report: Zion Young (2018)
Simeon 2018 shooting guard Zion Young is one of the top uncommitted prospects in the state. Young transferred back to the Midwest after playing his junior year in Utah. The strong and explosive wing has some of the best physical tools of any wing player in the state. Born scorer that loves to shoot the deep three and throw it down on his opponent with monster slams. He had a strong close to the summer with Young & Reckless on the circuit in July. PrepHoopsIllinois caught up with Young to see where things stand with his recruitment after completing a pair of official visits to Wisconsin Milwaukee and Western Illinois.
He broke down the trip to Wisconsin Milwaukee.
“When I went down to visit it was a great campus scenery. Also it was a nice size campus. It wasn’t too small nor was it too big. So I liked that. Also I learned the history of being able to play on their floor and that the great’s had stepped foot there like Jordan, Bird, and Magic.”
Last week he took a trip to Western Illinois who has also been recruiting the talented guard.
“I liked that everybody was really laid back and the fans and the people around really care about their basketball and sports teams. Also how nice the campus looks.”
He is not sure at this time if he will sign early or late.
“As of now I haven’t really thought about that. I have been mainly just focusing on my academics and developing to be the best player I can be.”
A couple other schools that have shown interest include Drexel and Valpo. Young will be a key player on one of the premier teams in the state. Simeon will look toward Young to be a big time wing scorer both shooting it and creating his own shot. He is the #3 shooting guard and #14 overall prospect in the 2018 class.
