The first 2027 Tennessee player rankings are here. Many prospects in this class logged in quality minutes as freshmen.

It's only the beginning for this class as an important spring and summer awaits them.

Ensworth's small forward Malachi Jordan is No. 1 in the 2027 class. At 6-foot-5, the small forward is the ideal wing that's needed on the floor for spacing, pick-and-roll action, and perimeter scoring. Jordan, who averaged 13 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game, is unselfish and is all about great ball movement until a great shot is available.

Here are 4 takeaways from the first installment:

[player_tooltip player_id='2101889' first='Justin' last='Frison'] headlines the point guard class

Houston's starting guard comes in at No. 2, and is currently ranked the No. 1 point guard in the class. Frison had big moments for the Mustangs during the 2023 season. In the semifinals round of the TSSAA 4A District 15 Tournament, Frison had 21 points in a loss to Cordova. He handled pressure well, shot it well, and showed the physicality of 4A didn't overwhelm him. Frison, who averaged 11 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, has a promising future, and Houston definitely has its leader for the next three seasons.

[player_tooltip player_id='2133810' first='Ty' last='Cobb'] is right there

Upperman's [player_tooltip player_id='2133810' first='Ty' last='Cobb'] comes in at No. 3. He's the second-ranked point guard in the class, and rightfully so. Cobb is a tough, hard-nosed point guard that can score at all three levels. He can score through contact, and the effort is there on every possession. Cobb is coming off a season averaging 20 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.0 steals on 56 percent shooting.

Can [player_tooltip player_id='2111892' first='Jordan' last='Myles'] be the best wing in the class?

Houston's small forward [player_tooltip player_id='2111892' first='Jordan' last='Myles'] landed at No. 5. Myles needs to improve as a ball handler, but as of right now, he stands out in one area: shooting. Myles can make shots from the perimeter. He doesn't mind hitting the glass and altering shots at the rim. Myles has good length (6-5) and has yet to hit his peak.

[player_tooltip player_id='2283268' first='Greg' last='Spight'] showed flashes in a reserve role

Playing behind seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2321822' first='Connor' last='Mancell'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1140778' first='Cooper' last='Haynes'] wasn't a bad thing for Spight. Coming in at No. 22, the 5-10 guard showed what he could be next season for the Saints in a limited role. Spight can shoot it. He's a scary threat offensively. In small ball lineups, Spight can play off the ball when needed. At moments during the season, he displayed how solid of a passer he is. Spight is already a Division II-AA state champion. More accolades could come once his role increases in 2024.
