These guys don’t get as much love as older, more established contributors at the HS level, but are showing why they’ll be household names soon enough. Check out five guys that have impressed from the Triad area and beyond in the 336, take a read below to learn more about their season-long stats and play styles.
Micah Woods
Micah Woods
Graham has had a tough stretch so far this year, but it’s not due to how Woods is playing. He’s one of the top freshmen in NC, scoring 17.6 PPG to lead his entire team so far. He’s a volume scorer at this point who’s taking any shot his team needs, and can either shoot it, drive it, or shoot pull-ups. He’s a name that will be worth monitoring on the grassroots scene this summer and see how he performs.
Adams is a former Triad Blue Chip camper that has produced in a big way so far for Eastern Alamance, dropping over 12 PPG so far on the season. He’s been up and down which is expected for a freshman, scoring 20-25 points some games and 5 points the next, which is all very normal and expected from a freshman who is asked to score the ball a lot. He’s a guard to keep eyes on in the area as he will surely continue to increase his numbers and become a household area name soon.
Gibson is one of the top freshmen in the entire country, and it would be remiss to not include him on this all-area list at least. He’s started to increase his nightly numbers as we’ve gotten into the second half of the season, and has begun more to operate as a scorer than the rebounder and help side defender he stuck to being in the first part of the year. He’s turning a corner in his aggressiveness, confidence, and determination that is allowing him to impact the game against older and bigger players.
Rogers is a man amongst boys because of his physical frame and stature, standing at 6’6 and weighing 235 pounds, ungodly numbers for a freshman forward. This makes him a load to handle on the interior, where he averages 8 points and 8 rebounds per contest. He’s finishing well in the paint at a 59% clip, but will need to expand his scoring range from outside the basket and improve his ability to shoot foul shots over the next three years. However, he’s got a bright future.
Kingston Carmichael
Kingston Carmichael
Carmichael is a freshman to watch at RJ Reynolds, primarily playing off the ball and operating as a knockdown perimeter shooter and scorer so far this year. He’s only averaging 8 points per game, but has knocked down almost 2 threes per game at a solid 36% clip. Also a solid defender with a versatile frame and quick feet that can allow him to bother guards, wings, and forwards pretty similarly. He could be a breakout name next year with the departure of Antoine Jones Jr Antoine Jones Jr 5’10” | SG RJ Reynolds | 2024 NC , the teams leading scorer.
