Expert Analysis
Daniel Siehndel | Prep Hoops Scout
Smith, an athletic and interchangeable forward, appears to be growing increasingly comfortable taking his game to the perimeter. While he has long been known for his physicality as a rebounder and defender, it’s his offensive development that has stood out throughout the spring. If his play in June is any indication, the leap he’s aiming to make before his senior season may be right around the corner.
Offensively, Smith has shown the ability to stretch the floor with consistent perimeter shooting while also operating effectively as a slasher from the wing. As his confidence continues to grow, he is becoming a more complete offensive threat who can impact the game in a variety of ways beyond simply finishing around the basket.
Defensively, he may have made his biggest impression. Throughout the spring, his ability to cut off driving lanes, switch onto multiple positions, and guard different types of players caught the attention of evaluators. His combination of strength, length, and mobility allows him to be a versatile defender capable of fitting into a variety of defensive schemes.
At 6-foot-5, Smith possesses the type of physical tools and developing skill set that college programs should be paying close attention to. With his continued growth on the offensive end and proven ability to impact games defensively, he looks like a prospect whose recruitment could gain momentum in the near future.

One of the better defenders all weekend, Jackson was solid on the ball and especially impressive when walling up and contesting looks around the rim. He contained the ball off the bounce and consistently shut off driving angles. He was also strong in his communication, looking locked in and engaged on that end of the floor for long stretches. His lateral quickness and ability to defend multiple positions really stood out at times. Smith, a tough finisher around the rim, also stretched the floor with timely three-point shooting — adding another layer to his game and forcing defenses to adjust to his spacing.

Jackson Smith Jackson Smith WG NE is a physical forward who does a little bit of everything for ETG. He came into the weekend after receiving 16U first team Battle of the Lakes honors the weekend before.
Smith showcased his finishing ability at times last weekend and when he couldn’t convert at the rim he often got to the line. Jackson is a capable shooter however, he could be more consistent in this area of his game.
On defense he guarded multiple positions and read passing lanes for steals in the back end of ETG’s press. His frame allows him to easily switch up and down and his physicality allows him to wall up effectively on drives. Smith is hard to keep off the glass on both ends of the floor when he puts his mind to it.
His best game came against Southern Assault where he scored 14 points, had four rebounds, one assist and two steals.
