As we creep into 2024 the top billed players are not only living up to the hype, but we also have some rising players that are starting to open eyes. Recruiting will start to pick up serious steam in January and some of these guys are hitting their stride accordingly.

Colin Cross Colin Cross 6'0" | CG Weir | 2024 State WV
Colin “G” Cross is a new comer to the WV recruiting world, but not for long. Cross has posted monster numbers against more than formidable opponents. In his first six games posting scoring totals of: 35, 31, 35, 25, 42, 41 and most recently scoring 27 of Weir’s 40 as well as surpassing 1000 points for his career. Most of WV have yet to hear that name, but it looks like he’ll be a regular in our top performers category for the remainder of the year.
Evan Hughes Evan Hughes 6’4″ | SF Cabell Midland | 2026 State WV has came up big a few times already for Cabell Midland. A team that has to rely on several underclassmen, Hughes has provided the scoring support when necessary for CM to be successful. Playing a really athletic and talented Teays Valley team that boasts multiple college prospects, Hughes posted 22 points and 6 rebounds. Impressive for a sophomore guard in WV’s 4A class.
Ethan Blackburn Ethan Blackburn 6’3″ | SG Cabell-Midland | 2025 State WV makes his return to the report posting an impressive double double including 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists vs some of the top competition in WV with TVCS. Blackburn continues to churn out impressive numbers and stay on recruiting radars.
Isaac Meddings Isaac Meddings 6’0″ | CG Wayne | 2025 State WV is becoming a weekly regular on the report and he’s hard to ignore posting these kinda numbers. Meddings poured in 32 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal vs Westside and followed that up with a 20 point, 3 rebound, 2 assist performance vs single A favorite Tug Valley. Meddings if you haven’t seen him is a high percentage shooter and complete guard with every skill.

Clay Robertson Clay Robertson 6’2″ | SG Spring Valley | 2025 State WV hits the report this week after high level performances vs high level opponents. Robertson, already with a college offer, posted a huge game vs Princeton putting up 29 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal against a talented roster. Robertson is already one of WV’s top 2025 prospects and has great size and athleticism for an underclassman guard. Look for his offers to be more frequent soon.
Roman Kellum Roman Kellum 6’5″ | PF South Charleston | 2025 State WV came alive in a matchup vs Greenbrier East putting on a monster show including 24 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks and featured 7, yes I said seven, dunks! Kellum is quickly becoming a hot recruiting commodity due to his down hill play, length and athletic ability. Safe to say MEC schools will offer by the end of the year, but BlueChips Nation has told us that some lower level D1’s have him on their watchlist as well.
Nate Rodriguez Nate Rodriguez 6’0″ | PG Parkersburg | 2025 State WV is no stranger to big numbers, as he’s consistently filled the stat sheet for PHS no matter the opponent. Friday he dropped a whopping 29 poimts, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist with a lights out 10/13 shooting including 3/3 from deep.
Tate Adkins Tate Adkins 6’3″ | SG SPRING VALLEY | 2024 State WV is one of the new names on the report. Adkins has been a mainstay for multiple years for the Spring Valley squad and continues that trend. Adkins a standout two sport athlete in WV’s top divisions is capable of overwhelming any defender in front of him and vs Princeton he did just that. Posting a double double including 19 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assist, 1 steal and 1 block, Adkins is lighting it up so far this year. Averaging 15/6 per game Tate’s most impressive stat is shooting 47% from 3.

Caleb Thomas Caleb Thomas 6’6″ | PF Spring Mills | 2025 State WV continues to post monster numbers that we believe are quickly elevating him to Division I recruiting status. Thomas simply dominates on both ends with athleticism and his dynamic offensive skill set. Thomas seems willing to do whatever is needed outside the paint or in it. Thomas put up 21pt,11rb,8ast,6blk, 2stl vs Capital on 12/27, 20pt, 8rb, 5ast, 4blk vs Spring Valley on 12/28 and finally followed that up with a dazzling 18pt, 10blk, 7rb, 7ast, 2stl vs. #1 and defending champion Morgantown, leading Spring Mills to a victory. I think we might be seeing the emergence of possibly the top 2025 player in WV.

Loakkhae Uth-Smith Loakkhae Uth-Smith 6’4″ | SG Spring Mills | 2025 State WV is one of the fastest if not the fastest rising guards and overall players in the 2025 class. Smith has found his groove and began to compliment Caleb Thomas Caleb Thomas 6’6″ | PF Spring Mills | 2025 State WV in the best of ways. We saw Smith this fall at Anderson Court and was absolutely blown away by his shooting and scoring and with his length on the wing. Smith will dazzle anyone who gets to see him for the first time. Smith posted huge numbers in big wins last week including: 25pt-5rb-2stl vs Capital in a win, 20pt-2rb in a win over Spring Valley and 25pt-2rb-1stl in a victory over #1 and defending champ Morgantown. Smith will draw recruiting attention very quickly.
