Prospect Spotlight: Aaron Hamilton (2019)
2019 guard Aaron Hamilton is quietly becoming one of the better shooters in the state of Kansas. Hamilton hasn’t had a lot of interest or offers, but he believes his junior season will attract some coaches and turn some heads.
Hamilton played ball with SSA Elite 16u this summer, and he said it really helped him with his confidence. Although he’s always been a pretty decent scorer, he’s now starting to see the floor and finding teammates a lot better.
Last year’s high school season didn’t quite go as planned, but the team started to grow and figure it out near the end of the season. Junction City had a new basketball coach and finished the season with a 5-17 record. Hamilton knows that he is going to have to be a leader this year not only on, but off the court as well. He mentioned, “I’m looking forward to grow together as a team and get going in the right direction and to compete in our league”. There are those who have doubts and maybe aren’t too confident in them, but he’s ready to prove them wrong.
A few people that have made a large impact on Hamilton’s life are his mother and older brother. He looks up to his mother because she is a hard worker and doesn’t let up even when times get tough. His older brother is a leader and courageous. He has a very successful job and has always been there. Hamilton mentioned that he doesn’t know what he’d do without them. He is also a fan of Kobe Bryant and rookie De’Aaron Fox. They both just have that killer mentality and love to play the game. Hamilton says he likes to model his game off Fox, he’s quick and loves to distribute the ball. Fox has a lot of confidence and plays with such a natural flow to the game.
Hamilton not only competes on the basketball court, but he also plays football and runs track. After college, he would like to continue his career on the hardwood, but knows that it will take a lot of hard work. “I’d love to play college basketball, it’s been a dream.” Even if he’s not able to play college ball, he would like stick around in the sports industry. Studying and working with athletes is something he would be very interested in. “I just want to be around sports because I really enjoy them.”
I look forward to Hamilton having a breakout season this year for Junction City and possibly contending for a spot in the State playoffs.
