[player_tooltip player_id='1768901' first='Tyler' last='Garrett'] '25 6'8 F Georgetown Prep

Most impressive player on the day was Garrett, posting a 26p 6r 2b 1a statline to solidify a bronze finish in the Gonzaga DC Classic. His hands have improved significantly to handle difficult passes and finish over the defense. Garrett's court awareness has also improved significantly, positioning himself well as a passing target and keeping his hands up when teammates drive to the paint. He even showed improved touch outside of the paint, knocking down his only three point attempt off an inbound play with a smooth shooting motion. He plays hard at both ends of the floor and has gotten better at chesting up to defenders to challenge shots without fouling.

[player_tooltip player_id='1192641' first='Darren' last='Williams'] '24 6'2 G Archbishop Ryan

-Elite scoring guard did most of his damage from the perimeter in our Friday viewing but got downhill more and made plays in the paint for himself and teammates-- showing another underrated aspect to his game. Williams split a few ice and hedge coverages to get downhill smoothly and finish in the paint, navigating those tight spaces will be key to his success at the next level. He finished with 22p 5s 2r 1a, in addition to hitting a game-winner from the elbow just before the final buzzer.

[player_tooltip player_id='1409272' first='Christian' last='Gurdak'] '25 6'9 F Gonzaga

Gurdak does such a good job of carving up space and positioning himself for rebounds at both ends of the floor. The grizzly big finished with an impactful 12p 8r 2a in a tight defensive matchup, his 4 offensive rebounds extending possessions for a Gonzaga offense that needed those extra looks at the rim. Gurdak has lost at least 15 lbs this offseason and is moving better laterally as a hedger on ball screens in addition to getting rim to rim much more quickly with the improved physique. One of the few prospects in the area that hasn't reclassified AND is young for his grade, I expect the next step in his development to focus on continuing to improve his explosiveness off of two feet.

[player_tooltip player_id='1948343' first='Jack' last='Furman'] '24 6'2 G Riverdale

Tonight was the best I have ever seen Furman shoot the ball, as he finished with a resilient 21p 5r 2s 1a statline in a closs loss to Archbishop Ryan. He hit his usual perimeter looks but also got to the rim with relevant ease and made good reads on dropoffs to the weakside big when the help defender came over to challenge his shot. The senior guard is fielding interest from Army and Navy with several LM schools inquiring after this weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id='1370498' first='Nykolas' last='Lewis'] '25 6' PG Gonzaga

Every time Gonzaga needed a big bucket to counter a Jackson-Reed run, Lewis came slicing through the paint to score or draw the foul. The skilled junior guard put up 12p 6r 2a 1s in the title game and take home MVP offers. With his scoring gravity and an abundance of paint touches, I need to start seeing more kickouts to shooters on the opposite side on his drives to the paint-although he is seeing and delivering the drop to the low man on these drives. Also, while considering his rebounding/second jump ability from the point guard position, I would like to see him take one more step and turn floaters into layup attempts because even if he misses, he would be right there to put it back up.

[player_tooltip player_id='1225260' first='Scottie' last='Hubbard'] '24 6'4 G Jackson-Reed

Hubbard turned in another complete performance with 3/4 shooting from deep to give him 14p 5r 2a for the game. The athletic off guard is letting it fly with confidence and looks much-improved developmentally with his new team. I'm looking forward to seeing how HC Tee Johnson uses him defensively going forward, as I think Hubbard can extend another spot and guard small forwards in addition to guards this season.

Howard Williams '27 6'7 F Whitney Young

Williams impressed again as a piece that performed well despite not having sets run his way or being given any iso possessions at the elbows to make a play, scoring off of broken plays and putbacks to finish with 11p 2r 1b. He can already guard 3-5 and I expect that to potentially expand to also covering shooting guards when ball screens force a switch as he grows comfortable in his frame. Used almost exclusively as a 5/back to the basket big, I'm intrigued to watch him in a different role out on the wing with his AAU team this summer.

[player_tooltip player_id='2424034' first='Semaj' last='Stone'] '27 6'2 G Archbisop Ryan

His stat line wasn't anything crazy (2p 5r 1b 1a) but I thought Stone not only played his role but starred in it, extending several possessions with pesky long rebounds that were crucial for his team in a tight game. He can put the ball on the floor, defends at a high level, navigates screens well as a POA defender, and plays under control. Interested to track his development down the line as he moves to more of an on-ball role with the graduation of several Ryan PGs after this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1434219' first='Alex' last='Touomou'] '25 6'6 W/F Gonzaga

Even though his stat line didn't illustrate how impactful he was (5p 4r 3b), I thought the rebounds and blocks happened at some of the most key moments in the game. His athleticism and timing have improved significantly as a shotblocker and he is beginning to do so without fouling/while getting the rebound to start the fastbreak. Tuoumou is also beginning to make the right reads as an off-ball screener and mover, getting to timely rebounds or finding open gaps in the defense to roll to for easy dunks. As the game slows down for him and he plays with more consistency, I expect his recruitment to continue to pick up.
