Key Impact Transfers
Transferring is happening more and more at the high school and collegiate level. It will be interesting to continue to monitor how the change in rules affects the transfer situation. With that said, a number of talented prospects made the decision to move schools. Here is our list of the top impact transfers for the 2017-2018 season.
Key Impact Transfers
Steele Bennett 6’11 C 2018 Taylor Made Prep
Taylor Made Prep made a splash in the Arizona basketball world with Saikou Gueye and Bennett choosing to go there. Taylor Made is typically for Post Graduate players. However, Bennett will continue to attend Desert Visit while playing for Coach Edwards. Bennett is a NCAA Division I player who brings size and good footwork on the block.
Xavier Dusell 6’3 PG/SG 2020 Chaparral
Dusell had a highlight filled freshman year at Mesquite. However, he has made the change to Chaparral and should take over a similar role to what he had at Mesquite immediately. Dusell shoots the basketball extremely well from deep and will consume many of the points left by the graduation of Colten Kresl.
Shaun Wahlstrom 6’8 PF/C 2019 Estrella Foothills
Wahlstrom was one of our biggest stock risers in the state this past season. He has a good frame and an ability to shoot it from deep. On the block, he finishes well around the rim. As he continues to learn how to use his strength and size to create for himself, the high and higher his upside will go. Wahlstrom’s transfer should make Estrella Foothills an instant competitor for a state championship with Grant Greabell returning.
Cedric Bridges 6’5 SF/PF 2018 Westview
Bridges demonstrated all summer, while participating with Factory, how athletic he is. Although slightly undersized as a 4, he is strong and has great upside. He has improved his ability to shoot, but still primarily thrives due to his muscle mass and athleticism. Bridges will join one of the top teams in 6A in Westview.
Josh Ursery 5’11 PG 2019 Liberty
Liberty had a great run to the final 4 last year. However, they lost strong guard play which left a huge question mark going into this season. With that said, Ursery will fit in perfectly. He will bring more athleticism at the guard spot than Liberty might have ever had. Further, he will bring instant offense as well as a lot of potential to cause havoc in the Liberty press.
Jason Harris 6’8 PF 2020 Higley
Harris is a big time football and basketball prospect. In addition to being skilled, he brings size, strength, and athleticism. He could easily be the top 2020 football and basketball athlete in the state. Harris’ transfer drastically changed the dynamic of 4A as he will come in right away and make an immediate impact.
Nikc Jackson 6’8 PF 2018 Rancho Solano
Jackson’s move to Rancho Solano improves a team that already had a lot of talent. Jackson’s versatility makes him an NCAA Division-I prospect and a handful at the high school level. Jackson will fit in extremely well with Caden Hoffman and the rest of the talented crew of Rancho. Jackson will be one of the biggest transfers in the state.
Shon Robinson 6’8 PF 2020 Higley
Robinson is a big time transfer from Illinois. Between him and Harris, Higley became one of the longest and most athletic teams in the entire state. Robinson comes with a lot of notoriety and upside. It will be interesting to see how two of the best athletes in the state impact Higley this season.
Antonio Reeves 6’3 SG 2018 Shadow Mountain
Shadow Mountain has a history of talented seniors transferring in. Reeves is the latest. He is a high NCAA Division II to low NCAA Division I prospect who will bring a knock down shooter to one of the best teams in the state. Reeves will fit right in with two guards who are two of the best passers in the state. If Reeves continues to shoot it like he did in Illinois, he will make a lot of noise this season.
Evan Nelson 6’3 PG 2020 Salpointe Catholic
Nelson is one of the top young guards in the state. He can score the basketball well and brings a high IQ. This is a huge get for Salpointe as his length mixed with Majok Deng makes them one of the longest and most talent duos in the state. Nelson will make a difference and could assist greatly with bringing Salpointe back to the state championship. This has to be one of biggest transfers of this off-season.
