Conference Commentary
Top Ten in State Potential: Maranatha Christian Academy
MCA returns four players from last season’s strong team and those four players are now seniors. Those four seniors have a chance to start strong and be a top ten team. They are the favorite. The Stangs might not be as deep but they are still the most talented in this league.
Compete with Most: St. Agnes, St Croix Prep, Cristo Rey Jesuit, New Life Academy
St. Agnes has three of their four best players back from last year’s 16 win team. Andrew Weber Andrew Weber 6'0" | CG St. Agnes | 2024 State MN and Nolan Davis Nolan Davis 6'3" | SF St. Agnes | 2025 State MN are tough duo that could have this team playing for the Skyline crown. St Croix Prep lost three of their top five guys from an 11-17 team so it will be tough to take a big step forward, but they have a massive junior class that needs to get time before they look to be a contender. Cristo Rey Jesuit returns five starters and has a nice group of talent. The speed, depth and now experience seems to be there, now they have to use that to improve from being a 6-21 team. Trinity and Cristo Rey Jesuit played two one score games last season with each team winning one. Trinity has their three top scorers back and four starters returning.
New Life Academy is a top 30 Class A team still but they lost so many seniors that do so much for the program that it’s hard to expect them to relive the past couple seasons. That said, Section 4A is not deep and New Life is still the favorite there to get back to state.
Rebuilding: Concordia Academy, Nova Classical, St. Croix Lutheran
Rebuilding will not mean starting over for Concordia Academy who was in the section final each of the last two years, but it does mean looking different with a lot of new players. AJ Greene was a star for the school and he and eight other seniors graduated. Nova Classical is building a program. It’s a slow build but they are taking steps. They took a step last year and hope to take another this year. St. Croix Lutheran was a 12-win team last season and they lost their two best players. There are a couple returning players but the program looks to be in a reset spot.
