We are looking at the player that elevated their game and stepped up when it mattered most taking both themselves and their teams to the next level.
This was one of the toughest calls of any program. The St. Louis Eagles feature three prospects in Jeremiah Tilmon, Alonzo Verge, and Jordan Goodwin who are all high-major top 10 prospects in the class of 2017. For us it was Belleville Althoff rising junior Jordan Goodwin who takes home the honor as the St. Louis Eagles’ program MVP. What Goodwin did from April through July was remarkable. Riding high after a state title game run the powerful guard continued his momentum into the spring. He started with the 16U team where he was the go to player. As we got to May the Eagles moved him up to the 17U Nike EYBL team. Not only did he make the transition with ease playing alongside superstar players the Althoff guard made an impact in every game stuffing the stat sheet. Goodwin is a dominant offensive rebounder that scores in the paint at will pounding away at the opponent getting to the rim. His passing stood out as did his improved athleticism.
The signature moment for me was what he did playing at the Nike Elite 100 camp. Goodwin played to his strengths and physically dominated some of the premier players in the country with his motor, tenacity, and desire. He displayed he could get to the rim at will and rebound against players half a foot taller than him. This was the point where you are like he has excelled at every level and every opponent placed in front of him. Why is he not high major? That is exactly what he is! Goodwin proved that on the court with his consistent production and improved skills this summer.
