DC, Maryland, Virginia Freshman Watch List (Part 3)
In anticipation of the upcoming high school season, we will be taking a closer look at various teams and players throughout the DMV. In part the final part of our freshman watch list, we highlight some of the summer’s biggest class of 2021 standouts.
AFAMDI ACHUFUSI | SIDWELL FRIENDS
He may or may not make an impact this year, but Afamdi Achufusi certainly has plenty of time to make his mark at Sidwell in the years to come. He earned time on the floor during summer league as a result of solid defense, and has earned praise from Head Coach Eric Singletary for his efforts.
SHEER AKOT | SAINT JAMES
6’7 wing Sheer Akot, a native of Manchester, New Hampshire, closed out the summer with a strong performance at the prestigious CP3 Rising Stars Camp. Look for the skilled and athletic freshman, who comes from the D.C. Blue Devils NH program, to stand out right away at Saint James.
BRAYON FREEMAN | DEMATHA
Brayon Freeman quietly caught our attention this summer when he dropped 18 efficient points in a summer league game. The talented lead guard prospect, who once again caught our eye at the UA Next Experience, is certainly a name to remember down the road.
DARIUS JOHNSON | EPISCOPAL
Darius Johnson will finally get a chance to team up with his older brother Xavier at Epsicopal. One of the most exciting young guards in the Team Takeover program, Johnson has proven the ability to consistently compete at a high level, and should make an impact right away for Head Coach Jim Fitzpatrick.
DEVON SAVAGE | ST. JOHN’S
Down the road, Devon Savage has a chance to be one of the best local prospects in the 2021 class. An athletic wing with good length, he can make shots from the perimeter and displays very good defensive potential.
