Maryland/DC Summer Stock Boosters: 2020 Guards
Maryland and DC were well represented on the grassroots circuit this summer. As the season winds down and many players return from AAU back to their high school squads, we’ll be taking a look back at some of the players who have raised their stock the most since last high school season. Below, we take a look at five rising sophomore guards who are set to make serious noise after strong play this summer.
RAHIM ALI | POLY
Despite a wrist injury that kept him out for a brief period, Rahim Ali closed out the summer on a strong note. As the starting point guard for 15U Team Melo, he executed Head Coach Sam Brand’s game plan to perfection. Ali defended with tenacity on the perimeter, lived in the lane, and consistently got his teammates involved while understanding when to take it himself.
ADRIAN BALDWIN | ST. FRANCES
Adrian “Ace” Baldwin is one of the toughest guards we’ve seen regardless of class. The lefty, who started for 16U Team Thrill, is beginning to see his recruitment expand. Baldwin helped lead SFA to a championship last weekend at Norfolk State Team Camp, where he received his most recent offer from the Spartans.
COREY DYCHES | POTOMAC
Perhaps one of the most consistent players we saw this summer, Corey Dyches was simply exceptional for Team Durant. He is a confident, tough leader, and more importantly a winner. Dyches was one of the most productive players as a freshman for Potomac, and he should definitely continue that trend moving forward.
ISHMAEL LEGGETT | ST. JOHN’S
Another strikingly consistent player, Ishmael Leggett did a bit of everything for 15U Team Takeover . He played a key role in helping St. John’s secure the DeMatha Summer League Championship, and is projected to do more of the same during his sophomore season.
EARL TIMBERLAKE | DEMATHA
Earl Timberlake was highly productive for 16U Team Takeover this summer. The 6’5 guard, who will attend DeMatha, showed that he could play some point during the summer league. The long and lanky lefty is a solid paint getter, a lockdown defender, and a team player.
