Maryland/DC Summer Stock Boosters: 2018 Guards
Maryland and DC were well represented on the grassroots circuit this summer. As the summer winds down and many players return from AAU back to their high school squads, we’ll be taking a look back at some of the players who have raised their stock the most since last high school season. Below we highlight five rising senior guards who deserve mention.
IMMANUEL QUICKLEY | JOHN CARROLL
Immanuel Quickley, the top ranked player in the state, consistently demonstrated that he can compete, and more importantly win at the highest level on the Adidas Gauntlet with Team BBC. The 6’4 point guard, who was named to the Prep Hoops 17U All American Team, is an extremely hard worker, an outstanding leader, defender, and team player. Quickley, who closed out his final AAU campaign in style, is considering Kentucky, Kansas, Miami, and Maryland.
AMIR HARRIS | SAINT JAMES
Amir Harris saw a significant uptick in his recruitment while on the Adidas Gauntlet with New World. The long and lanky 6’5 guard, who recently transferred to Saint James, is considering a number of mid level division one programs. With his most recent offers coming from Temple and Penn, Harris will likely continue to receive interest as he certainly has the potential to play at the highest level.
JOSH CORNISH | DULANEY
Dulaney will feature a new look this season, and Team Melo Red sharpshooter Josh Cornish should be a very reliable scoring option. While on the grassroots circuit, he displayed plenty of toughness along with the ability to mix it up off the bounce. The 6’2 guard, who holds a Southern Utah offer, has been on visits to Quinnipiac, Radford, and Mount St. Mary’s among others.
STEPHEN CANNADY | SAINT VINCENT PALLOTTI
When considering the best available point guards in Maryland, the list is simply not complete without mention of Stephen Cannady. One of the most consistent shooters at the position, he brings a high basketball IQ, unselfishness, and a strong work ethic on and off the floor. Canisius is Cannady’s only offer to date, but don’t be surprised to see his recruitment blossom.
KEVON VOYLES | STEPHEN DECATUR
Kevon Voyles who is the leader of Stephen Decatur, received his first offer from UMES in June. As a starter for New World Virginia, he displayed versatility on both ends of the floor. At 6’3, Voyles can defend both guard spots, and is difficult to keep out of the lane while in possession.
