About Matthew
Expert Analysis
Tom Keller | Prep Hoops Scout
Like the ball pressure he applies on the defensive end of the floor. He is an effective trapper. Has no issues diving on the floor for loose balls. Matt plays with an assertive motor throughout the game. He plays with an immense deal of balance and is a jack of all trades. He should see traction from local small colleges.

While he wasn’t effective as a scorer, Tollerson-Irby was crucial nonetheless toward keeping Egan in the game with his poised point guard play. The floor general was able to generate north-south pressure on the rim off the dribble while keeping his head up to see the floor and make plays for his teammates, finishing with 6 assists to just a pair of turnovers. He also showed quick feet and active hands on D to the tune of 4 steals and 6 deflections. He’ll likely require growth in his perimeter shooting to generate scholarship-level interest but Tollerson-Irby’s ability to control a game without scoring as a lead guard should translate smoothly at least to the small-college level in due time.

Back running the show for Egan after missing much of last season due to transfer restrictions and injury, Tollerson-Irby looks to be a welcomed addition as a steady hand at the helm of the offense. He was consistent on Thursday in getting the ball where it needed to go with crisp passing ability and a compact handle en route to his spots. Tollerson-Irby was efficient with his shot selection and showed a consistent ability to knock down open looks from the midrange and from 3 alike. He’s not the sexiest but his ability to run a team should draw intrigue from college coaches in the years to come.
