Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Moore came into the game as Egan’s leading scorer and most enticing long-term prospect, and still left reason for optimism despite not quite having his best stuff on Monday night. Previously more of a jump shooter, Moore made a concerted effort to attack downhill, showcasing an explosive first step and thriving particularly in actions designed to get him catching on the move. While prone to settling at times, he showed his shotmaking ability in the midrange while also flashing as a passer with some nice reads within Egan’s offensive system. An undersized Egan lineup forces him to apply his size and athleticism in more of a frontcourt role, giving him an added dimension as a prospect while he continues to build his case toward steady scholarship-level recruitment.

With movement and injury depleting Egan’s perimeter attack, a lot has fallen on Moore’s shoulders and he answered the bell on Thursday with a dynamic 24-point effort. A true microwave scorer who can create something out of nothing at a moment’s notice, he got himself going by way of his trademark pullup jumper. Moore showed comfort stepping out to 3 off the catch along with an expanding arsenal of footwork and tough finishes off the bounce. He needs to learn to slow things down at times and value the simple play, but Moore’s competitive fire and undeniable scoring ability should have him on scholarship radars in the near future.

Another key piece of Egan’s young core, Moore stepped into a featured scoring role after a somewhat rare in-league transfer from West Catholic. He flashed last year as a freshman, but was a consistent producer this year under the increased workload. His natural talent as a shot-creator from multiple levels can really jump out at you along with his budding frame and athleticism. The next step will be boosting his efficiency and learning to impact games outside of scoring.

Moore’s fantastic play in the month of December is a major reason Conwell-Egan has jumped out a 6-1 start. He is a fast, smooth, and agile prospect who thrives in the open court. He can finish a fast break through contact or by scoring over opponents. Still, Moore’s half-court skills may be the most impressive element of his game. He can shoot threes, score off the dribble and distribute. Moore’s ability to use a jump stop and then score or pass off two feet is unique among today’s prospects. His mid-range game must be respected too. As a nice bonus, Moore can play off the ball as a slasher wing. Earlier this month Moore recorded a double double of 25 points (3 3PM) and 10 rebounds.

On Saturday Moore buried a slew of long-distance threes and turnaround jumpers as well as scored on the fast break. Still, it was the possessions where he ran as a primary ball handler for Conwell-Egan that impressed the most. As a point guard Moore was a quick and agile, so he blew past defenders and got into the paint for lay-ins. College coaches should love his ability to execute creative finishes in traffic. The smooth mid-range game that Moore displayed is unique among today’s high school players. Of course, with his speed and change of direction moves Moore thrived in the open court. The way he attacked defenders on the fast break was impressive.
