This Summer’s Top Point Guards – Player Notes
Some of this years top point guards aren’t a surprise. They have been making a case all of last year and heading into the summer.
Prep Hoops Washington takes a look at some of the top point guards of the AAU grassroots season and how their confidence will benefit there respective high school teams this year.
Class of 2018 6’3 point guard Casson Rouse of Seattle Rotary 17U was on of the top players in the tournament. The soon to be Olympia High School grad has a serious handle and pull up jump shot. He has a good feel for the game and can change speed and direction at the drop of a dime. I was mainly impressed with his ability to defend at a high clip.
Class of 2019 5’9 point guard Kenny Curtis though he is a smaller guard, but he plays like he’s over 6. He’s very crafty with his array of dribble combinations and his passing, but when Kenny has the mindset to score, he can get going quickly in that sense as well. The 2019 guard plays with a chip on his shoulder at all times and it shows in his intensity on both ends. As he continues to develop, Kenny can make a massive jump in the next rankings, especially playing and competing in one of the most nationally recognized schools in the nation Rainier Beach High School.
Class of 2018 6’0 point guard Trevante Anderson – Lincoln High School / Washington Supreme. Anderson has taken his game to another level. He has been mixing up his style of play, keeping defenders guessing on his next move. He has become more of an aggressive scorer, creating separation off of his moves for easy shots. His recruitment is trending up.
Class of 2018 6’2 point guard Eddie Turner – Garfield. After playing for Seattle Rotary last summer, Turner now plays for Team Bradley in the Adidas circuit and he has been playing really well. He is a pass first point guard, always applying pressure on defense and finding the open teammate. He is very shifty, exploding out of his moves for easy buckets and knocking down shots more consistently now. Turner should pick up more college interest this summer
Class of 2019 6’4 point guard Griffin Effenberger. Griffin is one of the most underrated guards in the state of Washington. He is long, athletic and has the ability to handle the ball against small guards. In some of his more recent tournament play he has shown that he can also knock down tough shots in tough situations. With an increasing skill-set and a great coaching staff at his disposal he will continue to build on his abilities.
