About Dre’mail
Expert Analysis
Michael Roth | Prep Hoops Scout
One of the top football prospects in Kentucky’s 2027 class, Carothers is a talented athlete on the hardwood as well. His quarterback skills are shown with some impressive passes with a lot of zip from one end of the court to the other. Add in his strength and ball handling ability, allowing Carothers to drive and finish through traffic. I loved that Carothers played hard till the final whistle, getting some transition buckets in the fourth quarter with his team down double-digits.

Carothers is ready for a breakout on the court this season. Even though he’s known more for his prowess as a quarterback, Dre’mail is a good basketball player too. He moved up from 41st to 30th in this update and will be one of the best players in the third region this season. Carothers should also be mentioned with the best two sport stars in Kentucky.

Carothers is in a unique situation moving forward. Looking ahead to his High School season, he’s going to have a new coach and will be missing his running mate after

headed for Eastern Illinois. Dre’mail could be one of the biggest breakout candidates in Kentucky over the next 9 months as he has the physical tools to be a top player in Western Kentucky but has had to wait his turn to be the go to player for the Aces. Don’t be surprised if Dre’ starts to turn some heads this spring and summer and ride that momentum into his Junior season.

The 9th district is always a bloodbath and this season will be no different. All 4 teams could win the region but for Catholic to get to Rupp Arena, Carothers needs to take the next step for the Aces. Dre’ was a role player last season for Coach Riley but

Carothers slid out of the top ten in the update but his long term potential is still really high. Dre has played a very limited role for Owensboro Catholic this season so his AAU season will go a long way to moving back up the rankings. He’s also a big time quarterback prospect with potential to be a scholarship level athlete in both sports.

There were several players in the mix for the tenth spot but Carothers gets the nod thanks to his overall skill set and the athleticism he showed at our Freshman Showcase. Dre seems like a natural shooting guard who is best playing off the ball and getting downhill as a driver or exceling in the catch and shoot game. Also a good defender, Carothers checks a lot of boxes as a prospect at this early point in his career.

Carothers was on what I think was the most talented team at camp. The fact that he could still stand out on a loaded roster bodes well for Dre in the long term. He’s more confident as a driver than a shooter right now but Carothers showed he can score at every level. He also had several steals late in the game when I was watching.
