Intro: Matt Ambrose (2020)
Class of 2020 shooting guard Matt Ambrose is the son of Stevenson coach Pat Ambrose. The rising sophomore should make an impression for the Patriots next season with his shooting from deep. He can really let it fly off the catch. Solid athlete as he is more than just a shooter.
Ambrose had a strong spring playing for Kessel Heat 15U where he was the go to guy.
“I see my role being more of a scorer and rebounder because I am one of the bigger guys. Trying to score.”
How did it go last year at Stevenson as a freshman?
“It was a good year playing on the sophomore year. I played mostly on the sophomore team and a little at the end on the varsity team in the playoffs.”
He felt playing on the sophomore level helped him in the long run with developing his game.
“It obviously helps my offensive game because I can try new things and learn things that I need to work on instead of just spotting up for three which I have down. I can try to take people off the dribble and be physical going through contact.”
What is the best part of his game?
“Shooting is my strength. I am trying to take it to the next level with shot fakes and secondary pump fakes. Working on getting into contact to finish.”
Ambrose spoke about the summer with Stevenson prepping for next high school season.
“It was good. I played varsity then. I played quite a bit. I was primarily a shooter, but am trying to expand that. We should be good. We don’t have any stars like we have in the past, but we should be a good team.”
