Recruiting Update: Greg Tribble (2019)

It is always fun to see guards attack the paint with aggression and ruthlessness. While the paint is usually always the territory for the big fellas, seeing a small guard get into the paint and make things happen can be very exciting. This is exactly what Cincinnati Lakers guard Greg Tribble did when I saw him play at the All In Hoopfest in Louisville in late July. And while the class of 2019 guard has been on the radar for a long time, this summer has seen Tribble recruitment gone to the next level. The first thing that I noticed when watching Greg play was his toughness, which is something he brought up when we discussed his performance in Louisville. “I felt that I played well despite the fact I had an injured ankle and a busted lip and cut eye,” he stated. The collision that caused the injured lip and eye looked scary when it happened, but Greg was at the scorer’s table within a few possessions ready to check back in. The Winton Woods High School also sports a very good mid-range game which he uses his outstanding handle to set-up while also having above average athleticism. He competes on the defensive end as well where his quickness and athleticism could see him become an elite defender in the future. Greg also understands what holes in his game he needs to fill to really take things to that next level. “My three-point shot needs improvement, needs to become more consistent. But also becoming a better leader and decision maker as well,” Greg stated. When asked he most patterns his game after, Tribble stated that a certain NBA star involved in trade rumors was his man to watch. “Kyrie Irving is probably who I watch the most. The way that he uses different shots and angles to finish at the rim is what I watch.” As for the next level, the future looks bright for Mr. Tribble. He was so far received offers from Morehead St., Youngstown St., Kent St., University of Toledo and Stony Brook, with the Youngstown offer coming after his performance in Louisville. Greg has also received interest from a list that includes Iowa, Purdue and Wright St. Armed with a 3.1 GPA and plans to major in Sports Medicine, look for the list to continue to grow for this rising junior.
