Recruiting Report 2018: Michael Germain
Michael Germain, 6’3″ WG/WF Springbrook Blue-Devils HS. Silver Spring, MD
.
Michael played great in the DeMatha BSN Summer League & The MD Elite Summer League this spring & summer. Springbrook lost in the finals of the MD Elite Summer League by 1 point, playing without 6’4″ WG Matthew Balanc who could be the top player in Montgomery County. We realized Springbrook had 4 players that will play in college & after watching the Blue Devils this spring & summer, up & coming Michael will be the 5th. Michael consistently made big plays & impacted the game without scoring. However, he did have some big scoring games & stuffed stat sheet. After watching him on 8 plus occasions this summer we believe Michael will play college basketball for 2018/19. The Blue Devils will start PG Delaino Jessup one of the best PGs in Montgomery County, 6’4″ WG Matthew Balanc who is on the brink of becoming a D1 high major, 6’6’5″ Combo Forward Cameron Rucker ,potentially a D1 mid major and 6’2″ CG Anthony Desruisseau, Therefore, Michael must play an undersized role as a PF/C for Springbrook. He does a great job in his role, and battles every possession.
Last season Michael was Springbrook’s 6th man & he averaged 7 ppg & 5 rebounds. We believe Michael is a lock to start this season & he adds, “I’m looking not to sit sit behind anybody, I have to take that starting spot and perform as a starter, but if Coach D doesn’t start me, I will be that big spark off the bench that the team needs.”
In order to play in college, Michael must translate to WG/WF and he has shown he has the potential to accomplish this. He is always hustling, makes the correct reads & will take the big shot. His head is always in the game when he is playing or resting on the bench and he is a vocal leader and energizer. Michael adds, “My position is the 4 and 5 for Springbrook HS but I am a guard with my Grassroots team. I was placed into the forward/center position for Springbrook because of my aggressiveness on the court in the off season & playing in the MD Elite Summer League.”
This spring & summer Michael played very well in transition & he can run the court. We saw him get to the rim off the dribble and convert a FGs with floaters, lay ins & put packs. His outside shot is constantly improving & Michael adds, “I am working very hard on my outside shot & utilizing my right hand. Of course I will always practice all the fundamentals of basketball. On offense I can post up & I have 4 plus go to moves I can beat my man down low. On the wing I can score on all 3 levels, and I am a triple threat facing the basket. My overall game has improved a lot since the end of Springbrook’s season. I work out daily and I love to play basketball.”
Most importantly is Michael’s will to win. We have seen him go to the floor for loose balls & constantly make hustle & winning plays. He is a key piece to Springbrook’s team chemistry and & a very valuable glue player for the Blue Devils. He adds “I want get my teammates involved any way possible on offense its team ball and a team sport so that’s my first priority. ”
On the defensive side of the ball, Michael adds,” I will do whatever it takes to get my teammates fired up. I will take charges and go hard after loose balls. In my man to man defense I stay low & force my opponent to defensive sideline. I hedge on screens until my guards can get back to their man. Also, I play good on the help side of defense & the recover side which means going out from help to recover your man.”
Michael studies Tim Duncan & Kobe Bryant and he picks up certain skills from both players. This summer Michael played 4 positions in some spells and he adds, “I would say I’m a player that can play any position on the court.” Michael is keeping busy until the regular season, running distance & sprints, working on strength & conditioning, basketball skills, and running pick ups.
In the classroom Michael is close to a 3.0 GPA, and he is interested in majoring in Criminology or Sports medicine. We are very impressed with Michael and we believe he will play basketball in college on some level. He can adapt to almost any situations, is a hard worker, great teammate and glue player who keeps on improving. We will be covering Michael & Springbrook in depth this year with game reports & new Recruiting Reports.
For the upcoming season Michael is looking forward to an excellent season for the Blue Devils who will start 5 seniors. He adds, “We understand how to play together & we realize if we play as a team, we can reach the MD 4A State Tournament final 4 at the University of Maryland. Michael has great passion for basketball which is very evident & he says “I think I can become a D2 & up player, but I have zero offers going into my senior year and that what motivates me to push myself every day on and off the court.”
