Scouting Vegas: FL Standouts (Part 1)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>AAU returned to Las Vegas for the first live period since before Covid happened, and there were multiple big time tournaments featuring some of the top teams from across the country. It was the perfect setting for the hundreds of college coaches in attendance and scouts that made the trip, as we got to see the top talent in the country.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here's a look at part one of some of the standouts that I saw from the Florida.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1306080' first='VJ' last='Edgecombe'] | 6'5” WG | SE Elite 2024</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":2100681,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/07/Edgecombe-VJ.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/07/Edgecombe-VJ.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-2100681" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Edgecombe was perhaps the best player in Vegas and made a case for being the best player in the country, as college coaches and NBA scouts went crazy about his all-around ability. The 6'5” shooting guard is a straight ball player as he's super athletic with long arms and can play above the rim, he shot the ball extremely well from deep both off the catch and off the bounce and he showed the ability to make plays on both ends of the floor to help his team.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1163391' first='Kent' last='Jackson'] | 6'2” WG | SE Elite 2024</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":2100682,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/07/Jackson-Kent.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/07/Jackson-Kent.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-2100682" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Jackson recently decommitted from Mercer, and he earned a good amount offers with his play in Vegas on the last live period as he got it done for SE Elite in a number of ways. Jackson was one of the best shooters I saw in Vegas as he worked well off the ball and set his feet quickly, he showed a quick release and deep range with consistency from deep and he was a good secondary ball handler who made plays for himself and others.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1055748' first='Jaylen' last='Robinson'] | 6'7” PF | SE Elite 2024</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1178327,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2021/04/Jaylen-Robinson.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2021/04/Jaylen-Robinson.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1178327" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Robinson is maybe the most underrated player for this SE Elite team, as he has a lot of tools he showed over the weekend that translate well for the next level. He's the new age four man who gets up and down and is very mobile, he's strong enough to guard bigger guys while quick enough to move and guard wings and he has a versatile offensive game with his blend of ball skills and athleticism.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1858998' first='Cam' last='Miles'] | 6'2” CG | SE Elite 2024</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1406892,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/03/Cameron-Milles1.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/03/Cameron-Milles1.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1406892" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Miles is another player for SE Elite that boost his stock picking up quite a few new offers at the Synergy Sport Radar event, showing his all-around ability as a combo guard and I think he'll have a chance to play his way up to the high major level if he continues to develop. He has a great frame for his position with long arms and a strong upper body, he shoots it well off the catch and off the bounce, he gets downhill and finishes well and he's a very good on ball defender who can turn over ball handlers.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1879501' first='Moustapha' last='Thiam'] | 7'0” C | SE Elite 2025</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>While Edgecombe is perhaps the best player in the 2024 class, Thiam has the potential to be a pro as well with his mobility and upside at his size. At 7'0” Thiam is very long and gets up and down the floor effortlessly, he's an explosive athlete who can play above the rim and is an excellent rim protector defensively, he moves well laterally to switch and guard on pick-and-rolls and he plays with good energy on both ends of the floor. He still has plenty of room to develop and get better over the next few years as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
