Gilhool Transfers to Penn Charter

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2235863' first='Matt' last='Gilhool'], the former No. 9 ranked prospect in our Class of 2024 rankings, announced last night via his social media accounts that he will be attending Penn Charter next year and reclassing into the 2025 graduate year. If you recall, Gilhool announced back in May that he was departing the Westtown School and transferring to Long Island Lutheran (NY).</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>So, why the change in transfer destination? One would imagine the recent hiring of [player_tooltip player_id='1466558' first='Brandon' last='Williams'] as Penn Charter's new head coach influenced that decision. For years Williams was the head coach of the extraordinarily successful 2024 [program_tooltip program_id='2078697' first='Philly' last='Pride'] UAA grassroots team. Gilhool was a key member of that squad.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>“Adding Matt into the mix is huge for obvious reasons, like his skill, talent and upside,”</em> coach Williams told me via text. <em>“But as a new coach I am looking to maintain and build on a winning culture. He is a huge get because it gives our program another humble star. A lot of folks will talk about him and Kai (Shinholster) being a great 2025 duo, but I am a fan of them because they are both team first guys. When your most talented guys are your most unselfish guys, winning habits become contagious,”</em> Williams continued. &nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>During his junior season at Westtown this stretch-4 style forward averaged 10.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Across the final four contests of Westtown's 2022-23 season Gilhool increased those averages to 14 points and 13 rebounds per game. Gilhool is an athletic and versatile lefty big man who this past winter posted noteworthy games of 20 points vs. Bishop McNamara and 17 points against Abington Friends.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>His late season surge acted as a springboard for an outstanding 2023 spring grassroots circuit. Gilhool produced all-tournament level weekends at MADE Hoops East Warm Up, Gym Rats Live and UAA Session 1. In June, Gilhool was selected as a Pangos All-American Camp invitee. Last weekend he was a standout performer at the Hoop Group Summer Finale tournament.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Gilhool holds a dozen division one offers. Included in that list are programs such as Penn State, Miami, Virginia Tech, and Rutgers.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Gilhool will be a major addition to a Penn Charter lineup that graduated several talented seniors. However, PC does return elite shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id='1271429' first='Kai' last='Shinholster'] (multiple DI offers), multi-skilled guard [player_tooltip player_id='1486754' first='TJ' last='Bryson'] and underrated wing [player_tooltip player_id='1128370' first='Kevin' last='Cotton']. Several weeks ago, three level scoring guard [player_tooltip player_id='991423' first='Jamal' last='Hicks'] also joined the Penn Charter roster via transfer.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
