Recruiting Report: Andre Kelly (2017)
Class of 2017 and Team Arsenal standout 6’8 power forward Andre Kelly is a very skilled post player who dominated in the Oregon Premier Showcase.
Currently the 6’8 power forwards has offers and interest from multiple schools around the country such as, Nevada, Washington State, California, Fresno State and California.
Andre enjoyed a highly productive weekend as he kept the motor running throughout the tournament. He is a strong athlete who powered his way to several buckets through traffic and some serious contact. He was a persistent offensive rebounder who got the reward with many put-backs for buckets. He also stepped out and made a number of 15 footers as well as a couple of step-back fade away jumpers. Andre was also one of the most impressive shot blockers in the tournament. His touch around the hoop is solid, but he could use a few more post moves in his arsenal at the next level. He has the length and moves well off ball to get in good positions for easy dunks and layups already though. Johnson right now projects to be a solid mid major big man prospect.
A very long Stretch who can be an intriguing prospect because of his size and ability to knock down 3-pointers. He is an ideal pick and pop player with his ability to launch those high-arching 3-pointers. He did his best work on Sunday’s final day when he rebounded more aggressively and started to use his vast length to challenge shots at the rim. He can also handle the ball a little bit in the open court.
Andre is a unique big man who has the body and post game to bang down low, yet also has an advanced guard skill set that allows him to occasionally give big men fits on the perimeter. Andre’s best trait is his rebounding ability. That has translated wherever he has played regardless of level. He also has great hands and has excellent touch around the hoop. His footwork down low is also very good and he uses it to frequently create space against other bigs. Combining that with his touch makes him a tough player to defend. Perhaps Andre’s biggest knock is his verticality. He is not a player with an insane amount of bounce. In the Oregon Premier Showcase offensively it hurt him some, as he went against guy’s normally taller than him and also more athletic. More high majors should be all over Andre if looking for an elite level rebounder who has good touch inside and can sometimes stretch the floor as well. Andre has reportedly just narrowed his list down to two schools.
