Prospect Spotlight: Kenny Curtis (2019)
Class of 2019 5’9 guard Kenny Curtis is slowly moving up the ranks as one of the top guards in the state. He is walking into his junior year with some confidence after a successful summer campaign.
Kenny is a tough guard that embraces physicality. His biggest strength is taking the ball to the basket whether it’s in transition or taking his man off the dribble in the half court. With that being said, Kenny can also take control of a team in the half court and initiate sets. Rainier Beach is a team that tends to push the ball every chance they get, so Kenny has the responsibility of ensuring execution. The 5’9 guard does a good job getting after it defensively with active hands.
Though he is a smaller guard, but he plays like he’s over 6. He’s very crafty with his array of dribble combinations and his passing, but when Kenny has the mindset to score, he can get going quickly in that sense as well. The 2019 guard plays with a chip on his shoulder at all times and it shows in his intensity on both ends. As he continues to develop, Kenny can make a massive jump in the next rankings, especially playing and competing in one of the most nationally recognized schools in the nation Rainier Beach High School.
Kenny is a jet quick point guard with underrated passing ability. Sees plays before they happen. Teams had a ton of trouble keeping up with him all tournament long. Drops off quick passes in the paint to his big men. Uses look-away passes and hesitations extremely well. Showed the ability to score the ball at a high level against big athletic guards. Despite his slender frame, he’s a definite D1 prospect that will have the potential to contribute immediately.
Offers should be rolling in for this young man after some great performances in the last tournament, Kenny Curtis will have choices in terms of the level he plays at. But he says it’s more about the fit than the level.
