An unsung hero for a Nova-Germany team that’s turned some heads this spring, Gage is a shooter who can light it up from 25+ feet out. While he made some deep 3-pointers on Saturday, it was the other stuff he brought to the court. Gage cut well without the ball and had a couple drives and finishes at the rim. The most impressive pass anybody on his team made was when Gage held the ball for the extra half second before throwing a bounce pass dime to a cutting teammate. Expect Gage to play a role for Olentangy Liberty as they graduated some key seniors from last year’s squad.
An explosive scoring performance to start the event, Calahan was getting buckets in the 10 A.M. timeslot against Nova-Germany. In the tail end of the first half leading into the start of the second half Calahan had 10 points in quick succession with a couple deep 3-pointers off the bounce and layups at the basket. Giving good effort on both ends, Calahan got the occasional steal and drew a lot of defensive attention. He earned that attention by getting into the lane consistently and either finishing or drawing free throws. A big-time scoring talent, Calahan could have some breakout scoring outbursts in the Dayton City League this year.
A new name for me, I caught Roller in the afternoon and he impressed me. Good size to play either wing forward position, Roller could shoot it from the outside and attack a closeout. In crunch time Roller stepped into a top of the key 3-pointer and had an and-1 drive to the rim to help his team secure the win. After leading Batavia in scoring as a Junior expect more from Roller as a senior as he makes a name for himself in the eastside of Cincinnati area.

An unsigned 2023 prospect playing, Green impressed for a scrappy Team Takeoff squad. His most success came when his team was trapping defensively and flying around the court looking for steals to lead to transition. A good shooter from the outside, Green connected on a few 3-pointers. Liked his hustle as well diving on the court for some loose balls. Knocked down the floater when he drove and also shot a high percentage on free throws.
Hawley had a big June for Preble Shawnee and is back making noise. A small college target, Hawley has great size that a lot of programs want to battle on the interior. Using his size in the paint there were a few times Hawley just turned and shot over the smaller defenders. Also showing some touch on a baseline 10-foot jumper, Hawley showed that he’s continuing his momentum he’s built in June to grassroots play.
