After another week of Post & Pivot's Spring League, I got to spend a couple minutes with another group of prospects, gaining insights on how they approach the game. Here they are, plus a few other standouts:

In a decisive win over West Philly, Dow put in work on both ends. “I just wanted to come out here and be aggressive, play for my teammates, defend, talk, [and] play hard.” Dow's high motor is one of the hallmarks of his game. He attacked the basket on offense and brought an infectious energy on defense. Going into his senior season, his coaches are pushing him to work on his intangibles as much as they his skillset. Dow “talking [and] being a vocal leader” should help them build on the program's momentum from a season ago. So will his individual development. “Biggest thing I'm trying to work on is my flexibility and my shooting.” He scored in bunches from all three levels as a junior. So him becoming more dynamic and a more consistent shooter won't hurt.

Matthew Gorman | 6'2 G 2024 St. Joe's Prep

Gorman had a breakout junior campaign and is carrying it over into the “off” season. Prep beat MCS in an up-and-down contest on Tuesday afternoon, with Gorman being named player of the game. “From the start, I think we all played great as a team, moving the ball, passing the ball. They were kind of set on [taking away] our big guy ([player_tooltip player_id='933048' first='Tristen' last='Guillouette']). So being able to move without the ball and create open shots, and knock them down, I think that was a big part of the game today.” Gorman canned three trey balls on his way to 25 points. He's more than a shooter and is working hard to expand his game. When asked about what SJP's coaches are having him work on, Gorman replied “physicality, defense-wise trying to pick up the best player on the other team as much as I can, boxing out, rebounding on both ends of the floor, getting into the paint [with] two feet, and making plays for other teammates.” Doing these little things are already helping him become a more well-rounded player. When it comes to adding more nuance to his game, Gorman shared that he's focusing on “Making plays when I don't have the ball, trying to find the open place, cutting, you know just good basketball IQ plays.” PA hoops fans should look forward to his inevitable growth on the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='1576722' first='Kingston' last='Wheatley'] | 6'6 F 2026 West Catholic

The first four weeks of the Spring League have evidenced Wheatley's slow and steady transition from the little bro on an experienced squad in 22-23 to a vital piece on their young-but-talented squad moving forward. The entire WC team came out clicking as a unit as the rising sophomore debuted his ability to space the floor from deep. “This off-season, I just been on the [shooting machine], shooting threes off-the-dribble, catch-and-shoot, all that.” He added that the jumper isn't new to his game, but he's just now gaining the confidence to pull them in-game. The three he made versus Dobbins stamped that. However, low-post defense and rebounding are his bread and butter. Coach Boc lets him play free but also gives a lot of responsibility as a rim-protector. “He tells me just play hard, get back [on defense], and just try to block everything that comes to me.” Wheatley altered countless shots inside and grabbed several boards as the Burrs controlled the game from start to finish.
