While many of the top players are already household names, Grassroots season is the perfect time to get out and discover some new talent. Fresh off their initial varsity campaigns, here’s a look at some of the class of 2026 fresh faces that we’ve had a chance to see, during Grassroots season.
Keep Iwuoha on your radar. The LV Knicks have a long history of developing big men. The 6’4 wing isn’t exactly a big, as he has a faceup game and looked pretty comfortable pushing the ball when I saw him in a recent workout. He’s far from polished, but if he develops, he has the size, and length to be a potential prospect.
IAR is another long potential prospect for the Knicks. He plays with aggression and is a better than average athlete. He has the type of signature skill that will get him noticed, as he’s a strong rebounder with a decent second jump.
I’ve gotten a chance to watch Gilbert several times during the spring. He’s developing into a versatile scorer, for one of the deepest programs in the state. His ability to score with his back to the basket as well as stretching the floor makes him one of the more intriguing fresh faces.
I saw Knight last month. He played well during a Pangos event, catching my eye and putting himself on the radar. He’s competitive and showed a decent handle and the ability to get out and finish in transition. Looking to see more of him as the next rankings approach.
Highlights
Peery seems like a comet in the night. I’ve seen him play one time for about 10 minutes he hit every shot and made 3 threes. I haven’t had the chance to check out the Prominent Elite sniper since then, but he’s definetly a fresh face to keep an eye out for.
Cheyenne has a long history of developing talent, they have a big strong player to work with in Kennedy. I had a chance to see him during the Spring League, he is a raw traditional low post big, that is poised to be a building block of the future for the Desert Shields.
I watched Benson workout with some unsigned seniors recently and he’s starting to develop into a potential Varsity player. He’s still learning the game, but his athleticism and compeitiveness make him a fresh face to watch as we inch closer toward June HS month.
