Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
One of South Jersey’s most prolific shooters over the past couple years, Delgado will help lead a three-headed backcourt attack that should allow the Cougars to compete with anybody in Group 4 across the state. He shows textbook mechanics and unflappable confidence while firing off the catch with a lightning-quick release from a wide variety of actions. A high-IQ player, he executes smart passing reads within East’s movement-heavy system while also making an impact defensively with his ability to play passing lanes or crash down to help out on the glass. While not the most dynamic off the bounce, Delgado should draw long looks from scholarship-level programs who value his shooting and IQ, or could wind up looking like a steal before too long should he slip to the small-college ranks.

One of the more established snipers in the state, Delgado has been part of the rotation since freshman year and connected on 175 3’s over the course of his high school career already. The rising senior has a compact and repeatable stroke that makes you believe every ball is going in when it leaves his hands. He never stops moving and shows the ability to make rapid-fire decisions on the catch whether to shoot or move the ball. Delgado is also a smart and pesky defender who creates turnovers with his active hands. He could be a gem for the small-college level, but physical strides in the past six months or so have him looking like a potential scholarship-level sleeper given his proven ability to produce efficiently in a translatable role.

It was a similar tale of two halves for Delgado, who was instrumental in building an early lead while scoring 17 of his 19 points before the halftime buzzer. An established sharpshooter, Delgado shook himself loose for well over a dozen attempts from beyond the arc, showcasing pristine mechanics with every ball feeling like it was going in when it left his hands. He’s a bit one-dimensional as a scorer, but showed added elements as a high-IQ passer within offensive structure and a willing defender with nice instincts for the ball. Small colleges should be beating down Delgado’s door but he certainly has a chance to carve out a role as a scholarship-level shooting specialist.

Delgado has had a very consistent season this year shooting the basketball. He has little to no hesitation when shooting the basketball and will take any open look he can get. After making 51 threes last season Delgado has already made 34 of them looking to crush his total from last year. His best ability is moving without the ball as he will confuse defenders with how he runs off of off-ball screens looking to free himself up for easy catch-and-shoot opportunities.
