The event is the unofficial kick-off to the Spring Live period, as it takes place the week before college coaches are eligible to come out and lay eyes on players. The tournament-style event features both boys’ and girls’ teams ranging from 8U – 17U. This exposure event will feature heavy media coverage, including Prep Hoops and highlight company Balldawgs. It will serve as the perfect time for several players to get on the recruiting radar, in this article we preview sleeper prospects attending the event.
Technically not a ranked prospect, Johnson is an athletic wing forward, that could use this performance to establish himself in the next rankings update. He’s one of the better high flyers at the event and comes in with a reputation as a big time, R&J guy, with the perpention for handing out a few poster dunks per game.
Simpson is a top 60 player in the state of Arizona, The sophomore followed up being a new addition to the rankings, with a strong performance duing the Kingz and Queenz of the city event a few weeks ago. A long, offensively gifted wing it will be exciting to have the stockriser participating in the event.
A top 50 player in the latest rankings, Vasquez is coming off a strong effort a couple of weeks ago during Kingz and Queenz of the city. He’s described as having some COD, along with a solid and effective mid range game. He’ll be a welcome addition to the event.
The Shadow Ridge guard recently made his first appearance in the Prep Hoops Rankings, cracking the top 50 in his class. He had a strong showing a few weeks ago in Fort Collins, the shifty guard with good finishing ability, will be running with PFB green this weekend.
Got a glimpse of Gordon last week during the Spring Valley Spring League, and he played well. The guard showed good speed, as well as the ability to score the ball from multiple areas of the floor. I like evaluating players in tournament style action, so it will be fun to watch Gordon this weekend.
Highlights
The Rancho PG, is playing with the Punishers this summer, but he could be running with Hard Work Dedication this weekend. The floor general is a heady PG, with a crafty game. The lethal lefty should provide HWD with an infusion of talent, and a chance to make a deep run in the event.
Last I saw Fralin he was competing his tail off for Silverado in the State Championship game. After finishing strong to end the season, I’m excited to see him in a grassroots setting. The forward has terrific size, he was more of a defender and hard hat guy for the Skyhawks, I’m looking to see how he scores during what should be a more wide open style AAU format.
I saw a lot of Green during the high school season, as he played JV for Spring Valley. The rangy forward looks like he’s transfering down to more of a guard. During the Spring League he played a lot with the ball in his hands, showing the ability to get downhill, as well as finish in transition. He’ll be running with the Chosen Few for the event.
Smith is another player that I got to watch during Spring Valley’s JV season. He’s known as primarliy a shooter, that can impact the game with his ability to space the floor and change the scoreboard from behind the arc. The sophomore sharpshooter will be running with Chosen Few as well this weekend.
