Intro: Alec Millender (2020)
Class of 2020 point guard Alec Millender saw key minutes as a freshman for St. Rita and is now running the show for ET21 Buckeyes at the 15U level. Long and rangy point guard with a tremendous feel for the game. Slick passer that has an advanced feel for the game and getting others involved. Smooth in the pick and roll making quality decisions with the ball. Handles it well and has a lot of potential.
Millender saw quite a bit of action playing up on the varsity level for a talented St. Rita team as a freshman.
“Varsity was a good experience. Everyone was a lot stronger so that is what I am working on. It was a great experience. I got in a lot of games and played big minutes. Started a few games. We got to the sectional championship and went pretty far. I think I played good and helped my team when I came in the game. I facilitated and got everyone involved. Scored when I needed too. Did what I needed to do to help the team win.”
With a great young nucleus returning St. Rita should be one to watch next season.
“A bunch of our sophomores are really talented. Any of them could have come up and played varsity, but there wasn’t any spots so we have them coming up along with the players returning from last year. We only had four seniors last year. The returning players are really good. We are a good group. We have a lot of talent and are going to do our best to try to win state next year.”
What are the best assets in his game?
“I really like to facilitate and get my team involved. I like to pass. Make the best pass. I have been trying to work on my shot. Try to get that better. People tell me to shoot more, but I like getting people the ball and getting a lot of assists.”
He spoke about playing with his ET21 Buckeyes 15U squad and his role on the team.
“We are really evolving and getting good. The first couple tournaments was kind of hard. We lost a couple games, but we are coming together as a team. We are moving the ball better. I feel like I am the leader and floor general telling everyone where to go. Being a coach on the floor and putting everyone where they need to be. Making the best pass for them to score. I feel that is what I am doing.”
