Bellarmine Prep 6-foot-1 point guard Charles Elze is coming off the heels of a successful sophomore season with the Lions, and heads into his 16U summer ready to pick up some offers.
A floor general with a pass-first mentality, Elze — Washington’s 18th-ranked 2019 — says his strength is passing, but he can score it too.
“When I’m on the floor I see myself as more of a facilitator than anything else; I facilitate very well and create opportunities for my teammates to score. I can also get to the basket and give myself an opportunity to knock-down a mid-range,”
Elze started all season with the Lions, helping lead them to the State Tournament while averaging 10 points, 4 assists and 2 steals per game.
“I did really well with getting open shots and hitting my mid-range jumper, and I created a lot of opportunities for my teammates to score — we had two good bigs, and I just did my best to get them the ball,” said Elze.
This spring and summer he’s playing with Seattle Select High Academic, and says his goals are simply to to get better and get recruited.
“It’s been going pretty well, we’ve won most of our tournaments, and we’re just getting better and better. And on that team my role is to be more of a scorer,” said Elze, who highlighted what recruitment he’s seen so far.
“This past season I had Seattle U come out to a couple of my games, and I’ve had a D3 school keeping up with me since last summer. And I’ve been getting a couple letters from some schools in Idaho and Eastern Washington for camp invites.”
He added: “Right now, I’m just working on my game and hoping I get attention from Division I schools that I can help make a better team if I ended up going there.”
