After averaging 14.4 PPG for Northfield during the varsity season, Alex Rasmussen rolled right into AAU this spring and kept the momentum going. Select Ohnstad 17U is ranked No. 7 in Northstar’s most recent AAU rankings with a 14-9 record and a big win over Comets Lewis.
“AAU has been a lot of fun so far,” Alex told NHR. “We have lost a few close games, so our record doesn’t show how good we have been. I’m excited about the potential this team has.”
Rasmussen is 6-foot-3 and crafty, playing multiple positions and always looking for ways to help his team win.
“Skill-wise, I’m always trying to get physically stronger in the weight room,” he said. “I have been working on various ways to finish around defenders on the rim. I also have been trying to speed up my jump shot and improve my mid-range pull up game.”
The college search for Rasmussen is just getting started. He visited St. John’s (MN) recently and has fielded interest from a number of local schools.
“So far I’ve talked to three D2 schools (Southwest MN State, MSU-Moorhead and University of Mary) and five D3 schools (St. Mary’s, Carleton, St. Olaf, Concordia-Moorhead and St. John’s). I hope to attend a school in the NSIC, I like bigger schools. It’s hard getting exposure to D2 schools in Northfield, so I hope to catch some interest this summer!”
Select Ohnstad will play in the Howard Pulley event this weekend.
