Run N Slam: 2019 Scouting Pt 1
PrepHoopsIllinois spent the weekend in Ft. Wayne at the Run N Slam. This prestigious event is one of the annual must stops on the spring evaluation tour. Here is part one of our 2019 Scouting Report!
PG Markese Jacobs (Mac Irvin Fire)
The Kansas commit had it all working! Jacobs who will be transferring to Hillcrest in Arizona is starting to find his groove with the Fire 16U. At Run N Slam his jumper was wet! He connected all over the floor pulling up from both mid-range and three. Hit corner threes off the catch. Passed it well including a couple nice alley-oop passes. Played extremely hard.
PG Kejuan Clements (Mac Irvin Fire)
The Simeon 6’2” point guard is one of the top lead guards in Illinois. He is more of a natural combo guard that is making strides as a point guard. When we saw him in Ft. Wayne Clements was very aggressive with the ball. Got to the hoop where he did a nice job converting at the rim. Didn’t shoot it particularly well. Mid-major prospect at this stage in the process.
SF Kahlil Whitney (Mac Irvin Fire)
Whitney is a freak athlete! The 6’7” small forward who is playing his high school ball out east in New Jersey would be in consideration for the top overall prospect in the state if he was still playing his high school ball in Chicago. He has all the physical tools you could ask for with length, strength, and elite athleticism. The motor and skill set are starting to emerge. Jump shot was not falling consistently in game we saw, but he has made strides in this area. Did have one nice pull up three early in the contest. Athleticism was shown around the rim and in transition with a few monster dunks. Was impressed with his defensive abilities swatting shots both in the paint and on the perimeter. If he locks in on that end he could be a plus college defender. High-major prospect.
C Ciaran Brayboy (Mac Irvin Fire)
Huge fan of the potential in this 6’9” center. He is coming off an injury that sidelined him for part of the live periods. Physical body with great mobility. That combination makes him very intriguing at the next level. Was solid rebounding and is a plus rim protector on the defensive end. Offensively didn’t do much scoring other than one big dunk. Couple nice passes out of post. Mid-major prospect that is just scratching the surface of his potential.
PF Rashaun Agee (Mac Irvin Fire)
Agee is a 6’6” power forward from Bogan. Like the frame and potential as a rebounder that this post presents. Got on the offensive glass for a couple put backs and finished an alley-oop with a tip in. Best as a rebounder and defensive player at this stage. Low-major potential.
PF Keenon Cole (Mac Irvin Fire)
Cole is one of my favorite players in the 2019 class. He is a high upside and electric athlete. The 6’6” post played his first event with the Mac Irvin Fire in Ft. Wayne. He flashed ability coming off the bench. The Streamwood forward had a sick up and under finish and protected the rim with several blocked shots. The area that is evolving is his perimeter shot. Hit one from the corner. Still shoots a line drive shot from both the field and free throw line. Plays with a great motor. Low-major prospect right now.
PF DeChaun Anderson (Mac Irvin Fire)
Anderson is a tough and rugged undersized four man. He is a junk yard dog type post. High points rebounds jumping straight up off the ground to snatch them out of the air. Gets most of his work done with quickness and tenacity on the offensive glass. Potential D2 player as he is pretty raw skill wise.
SG Deion Jackson (Chicago Select)
Jackson was a major part of the Chicago Select victory over the Wolves. Angular lefty wing that attacks off the dribble and finds the weaknesses in the opposing teams defense to exploit. Finishes extremely well at the rim and gets out in transition. Bouncy athlete that is projectable on the defensive end of the floor. Jackson is a potential low-major/D2 player.
SG Andrew Stewart (Chicago Select)
Andrew Stewart is a 6’0” combo guard out of Kenwood. He is slick passing it in transition and hit a couple of threes from the wings. Solid effort against the Wolves. Small college player at this stage.
SG Elijah Stewart (Chicago Select)
Stewart is a lefty combo guard at 6’0” also from Kenwood. He showed some athleticism getting to the rim finishing tough takes with acrobatic finishes. Potential on mid-range pull up. Small college player.
