SD Football All-State: Notable Basketball Players

This is a fun way to recognize multi-sport athletes and promote the basketball season. SD boys basketball teams will start practicing on Monday, November 28th. Hoops season is here! The talented Mr. Ashley threw for 2,279 yards and 30 TD's. Taylen also ran for 385 yards and 5 TD's. Ashley is committed USF for hoops. He is one of the best PG's in South Dakota. Taylen is amazing in the open court, he makes everyone better, and he is a winner! Expect Ashley and the Cavs to be back in the State Tournament in March and who knows, they may even get to the State Championship. Wilde was All-State last year as well. He has committed to SDSU for football. Wilde caught 46 passes for 946 yards and 10 TD's. Wilde also had 22 tackles and 2 INT's on D, he was a lockdown CB. Last season in hoops, Wilde averaged 12.6 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2 apg, and 2 spg. Expect those numbers to increase this season and for the Cavs to be a top team in AA. He was a playmaker for the Jefferson D and the leader of that scary unit. In hoops, Giblin is a tough defender that can lockup top talent. Beau can score points off the bounce and hit jumpers. The Tigers lost in the AAA State Championship game to Jefferson. He was stellar all football season and he will come into the basketball season full of confidence. In hoops, the Tigers are going to be a very talented team and Tryon will be a playmaking athlete. Lincoln is committed to Washington for football but he will be taking a visit to Ohio State this weekend. In hoops, Kienholz was 1st Team All-State last season. As a Power5 level athlete, Kienholz is a crazy dunker and he can get is jump shot off anytime. He is a team-first player but he can also put up points. Zabel is an impressive athlete that caught 54 passes and 13 TD's. In hoops, Zabel is a jack-of-all-trades. He is a workhorse of a defender, an aggressive rebounder, and an emerging offensive threat. In hoops, Busch is a strong and physical forward that will do whatever his team needs on the court. Ryken is a skilled guard that can score at every level and he makes everyone around him better. In basketball, Reis is going to be a headache for opposing teams. He will be one of the best rebounders in SD this winter. He is an ultra-physical post player that will be an animal around the hoop. On the offensive end, Thompson ran for 980 yards and 14 TD's! He missed last season with an injury but will be ready to roll this winter. Blake is a super quick guard with big scoring ability. Beware of  Thompson, he can take over a game in a heartbeat. After an All-State football season, Jackson should be ready to contribute to the basketball team. He is a physical player and an all-around positive asset to have on the floor. Brayden is a lightning quick SG and one of the top 3-point shooters in SD. In hoops, Randy was All-State last season, he lead the Panthers to a perfect season, and a State Championship. Rosenquist put up 13.2 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 7.2 apg, and 4.7 spg last season. He is an elite PG and a top-notch defender on and off the ball. Anderson is amazing in transition and a dynamic above-the-rim finisher. Last hoops season, Hennies and the Panthers went undefeated and won the Class A State Championship. Hennies had a great offseason in AAU hoops and he will be ready to tear it up this winter. Jack is a great athlete that can put up points from every layer in the half court. He had a great offseason in the weight room and he will come into the winter season as a bigger, stronger, and faster athlete. Tate can play above the rim, score from mid-lane, and hit 3's from deep. VanOtterloo is also an athletic and gritty defender. Reed is not just a standout in football, he is also excellent hoops. Last basketball season, Rus averaged  20.5 ppg, 10 rpg, 4 apg, and 2.8 spg. Expect him to put on a show all winter. Last year, Arend averaged 18.3 ppg, 9 rpg, 2 apg, 2 spg, and shot 45 FG%. He is a stat stuffer and the Huskies are going to be one of the best teams in Class B. Gavin can score from all over the court, is a physical defender, and an all-around productive player. Deuel is going to have a very nice squad this year and I think that they will surprise some people. Fornia can put the clamps on talented offensive players. He is also a productive rebounder.
