Louisiana Class of 2017 New Faces and High Risers
New faces
Malik Legania 6’4 SG Landry-Walker
Legania is a very long athlete, and that enough is normally enough to land someone on our top 100 rankings. The difference for Legania is his elite shooting ability and his ability to score at a high level. He holds a few D1 offers as a result.
Devion Dunbar 6’2 PG Sicily Island
If you know our 2018 rankings, you might have seen Dunbar’s name before. He was a top 10 talent in the 2018 class, but he decided to reclassify to the class of 2017. He is a very long point guard with size that has a knack for getting into the paint.
Latrell Jones 6’4 SG Archbishop Shaw
Jones is a player that really burst onto the scene last summer, playing with the New Orleans Wolves, and showed his elite ability to score the ball, including a game last summer in which he scored 47 points in a game.
Mike Young 6’10 C Salmen
Young is another player from the New Orleans Wolves that had a really good year last summer, and is continuing to garner college looks this summer. He is a big and long defender, and on offense is best under the rim.
Ashken Stamm 6’4 G/F
Stamm is the final trio of New Orleans Wolves players that are making their debut on the 2017 rankings. He has the size and skills to shift between a big 2 and a small ball 4 at the next level, and is one of the best shooters of his class. He is a hard nosed player that can help a team win. He is signed to play with Delgado.
High Riser
Davantre Vitor 6’1 G Washington Marion
Vitor showed on the highest level of high school basketball just how good he can be. He was the best player on a top 5 team in the state, and was able to lead a historically great Washington Marion team to its first title in 30 years.
Ja’Tyre Carter 6’6 F White Castle
Carter was an absolute monster in the Top 28 this year, and he willed his team to a state title. Despite being undersized, I think he is the best pure post player in the state for his class, and he has shown the ability to score against players that are bigger than him in the post.
