Dickey is a prospect who could benefit the most from the addition of the Washington brothers to Chaminade Julienne. With the addition of those elite talents, Chaminade Julienne is once again in the state title picture in 2022-23. Dickey is a perfect compliment to George Washington III as he can attack the basket when George draws help defense. Dickey will also use the floor spacing that Jackson Washington provides to more easily get to the rim. If Chaminade Julienne can make a deep playoff push, don’t be surprised if Dickey gets some scholarship interest if he has a big senior season.

Ervin is a prospect who stood out on a southeast Ohio based Mid Ohio Pumas squad. Already holding an offer from Rio Grande, Ervin is one of the top talents in that area of the state. Ervin provides size and shooting from the wing position and has steadily improved throughout the past year. Look for Ervin to help put Wellston in position to compete for a TVC title this winter.
Ioppolo was one of the biggest stock risers from Midwest Live, the first summer live period in Ohio where high school teams were seen playing together. Ioppolo got to show off some skills I didn’t see with his grassroots team, including more confident ball handling and creation for others. Mentor plays in a spaced out system that relies on pace, skill and shooting ability. Ioppolo is a great target for programs looking for a wing guard who can shoot it, make good decisions with the basketball and occasionally bring it up the floor. I think Division III and scholarship programs should be watching Mentor closely this winter as they’ll have some solid small college prospects.

Darbyshire came back late in his Junior season off an injury and never really found his groove in the winter. After watching him with his high school team in June and his grassroots program in July, Darbyshire is back rolling on the hardwood. Darbyshire is a connector wing who can make an open shot, compete defensively and move the basketball. His game isn’t flashy, but does help a team win with production on both ends. It’s encouraging to see Darbyshire find his footing again after the injury as he should have a great senior season for a Sycamore squad looking to win a district title in 2022-23.

Szczepaniak is a prospect who took off in the month of May with solid outings for OBC. Also a contributor for one of the top high schools in the state, Szczepaniak is proving he will be ready for college basketball from a competition and role standpoint. It’s going to be easier for players who have played top competition and learned how to affect the game without always having the ball in their hands or being the focal point. Szczepaniak should be on all small college radars not only due to his diverse game but also his character and excellent grades. Another player who will help you win on the court and be a great presence in the locker room, Szczepaniak is hoping to end his high school career with a state title after falling in the semifinals back to back seasons.
