Grit Region Finals – GameChangers
In this article:
A recurring segment after each Prep Hoops Circuit event has been our GameChangers series. Bringing you the best scorekeeping, live video streaming, and team management services of any mobile app on the market, GameChanger is a product every grassroots team in the country can use to better serve their players and their families.
So, what makes a Prep Hoops “GameChanger?” That is up to the eyes of the beholder. It may be an additional top performer still leftover from our prior event coverage. A player who made a key play that swung the game or maybe knocked in a game-winning shot could be highlighted here. Or, it simply could be a prospect that brought all of the intangibles to the table that led his team to victory. Let’s dive on in and highlight some of the GameChangers from the Prep Hoops Grit Region Finals.
Javion Bostic Javion Bostic 6'2" | SG Winton Woods | 2023 State OH (Walnut Hills H.S. 2023/Cincy Fire Elite 17u): This 6’2″ guard played a major role in leading Cincy Fire Elite to the Final Four of the Grit Region Finals. Bostic knocked in four three-pointers in the first half of their Elite Eight game to help move them on in the tournament. Along with his outside shooting display, Bostic also proved he can get to the rim off of the bounce.
Ayden Carter Ayden Carter 6'4" | SG Fremont Ross | 2023 State OH (Fremont Ross H.S. 2023/Hopson Elite 17u): A long, athletic guard, Carter proved to be one of the better offensive players of the event over the weekend at Fishers High School. Carter finished the Grit Region Finals averaging 19.7 points and 4.5 assists per game. He helped lead Hopson Elite to a 3-1 record.
Matas Castillo Matas Castillo 5'11" | PG Lemont | 2023 State IL (Lemont H.S. 2023/Full Package Black 17u): The Castillo twins are quick, feisty guards that will make plays on both ends of the floor. Matas showed off his ability to knock down open shots from three-point range, attack the rim and finish off of the dribble, and be a pest on the ball defensively. He certainly was a GameChanger for Full Package Black on their way to a perfect 6-0 weekend.
Rokas Castillo Rokas Castillo 5'11" | PG Lemont | 2023 State IL (Lemont H.S. 2023/Full Package Black 17u): Like his brother Matas, Rokas also scored it from all three levels at different points over the weekend and also bothered the ball defensively. He is capable of getting steals both on the ball or in the passing lanes and then getting the fast break stared. Helped led Full Package Black to winning the Grit Region championship.
Folabomi Fayemi Folabomi Fayemi 6'4" | PF Culver Academy | 2023 State IN (Culver Academy 2023/INB Elite 17u): You simply won’t find a lot of players with the physical tools that this 6’4″ forward possess. Fayemi is an excellent defender who has the versatility to guard essentially every position on the floor. Offensively, he is a slasher/driver who can get up and finish above the rim with his explosiveness and length. Very intriguing small college prospect.
Andy Spoelman Andy Spoelman 6'6" | PF Illiana Christian | 2024 State IN (Illiana Christian 2024/Team GRIII Elite 16u): Spoelman has good size and a versatile offensive skill set that was on full display at the Grit Region Finals leading them to a Final Four appearance. He scored it via some straight line drives, cutting off the ball to the basket, and mixing it up in the paint some. Good athlete with length.
