Scotty moved terrifically without the ball on Friday afternoon in Mater Dei’s win over Eastside Catholic. He scores the ball efficiently at all three levels including having a very smooth mid range game, rebounds at both ends, and is a versatile defender thanks to his length.

Scotty Belnap Scotty Belnap 6'5" | SG Mater Dei | 2024 State CA-S provides great length and all around team basketball for Mater Dei. Belnap draws defensive attention without the ball as defenses worry about his cutting to the basket strength as well as his ability to hurt them by shooting the three. Belnap’s athleticism enables him to excel in the open court, play good 1-on-1 defense, and contribute on the glass at both ends.

As a floor spacer, Belnap has a keen understanding of finding open spots on the perimeter and positioning himself for catch-and-shoot opportunities. His ability to knock down outside shots effectively creates additional scoring opportunities for his team and stretches the defense. Defensively, Belnap’s good hands allow him to disrupt passing lanes and generate turnovers. He showcases quick reactions and instincts, often coming up with deflections and steals that lead to transition opportunities. He constantly keeps himself active on offense and makes smart cuts without the ball to create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. His off-ball movement helps create spacing and opens up driving lanes for his teammates. Belnap’s commitment to being active and engaged without the ball is a testament to his basketball IQ and unselfishness.

The 6’7″ wing keeps making strides in his game.  Belnap is a good shooter, very accurate especially from the corners.  Displays good athleticism, improved ball handling which is helping him get to the rim easier.  He loves to get out in transition and dunk the ball. He has a high motor, runs the floor well and hustles.  Good wide arrange of skills along with fundamentals and development under Mater Dei Coach Gary McKnight make him a certified D1 prospect.
