The event featured some of the top private schools from Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina, and had hundreds of college coaches in attendance. We’ll have tons of content from the weekend, starting with part one of the 2023 standouts from VA.
DeShawn Harris-Smith DeShawn Harris-Smith 6'5" | SF Paul VI | 2023 State #53 Nation VA | 6’4” CG | Paul VI
Harris-Smith followed up his big performance in session one by doubling down and showing he’s one of the top guards in the DMV if not on the east coast. He’s so relentless in his style of play, going at you on the offensive end and getting in the lane at will, making plays for himself and others off the bounce and strapping up the opponents best perimeter option as well. He was electric when he got downhill and brought great energy to his team, all while being efficient as a scorer and making his teammates better as well.
Austin Ball Austin Ball 6'7" | SF Miller School | 2023 State #203 Nation VA | 6’6” WF | Miller School
Miller was one of the new schools in DMV Live 2 that wasn’t in 1, and Ball absolutely showed out in front of a number of eager college coaches excited to see him as the man. He didn’t disappoint either, playing with great intensity and energy, showing off his athleticism by finishing above the rim consistently and shooting the ball well from behind the arc both off the catch and off the bounce. He put up big numbers and was efficient as a scorer, as well as being a leader and the go-to option.
Jordan Horne Jordan Horne 6'1" | PG Miller School | 2023 VA | 6’2” PG | Miller School
Horne showed flashes of what makes him a division one guard prospect in my opinion, as he has the strength, size and playmaking ability to get the job done at that level. He can defend the length of the floor and turns ball handlers and uses his strength to stay in front, he controls the tempo and has good vision in the open floor and when he gets in the lane and he showed he can score it, despite being a little inconsistent in that aspect. He’s improved a ton over the past few years and is starting to show college coaches that now.
Luke Smith Luke Smith 6'9" | C Collegiate | 2023 State VA | 6’8” PF | Collegiate
Smith was great for Collegiate this weekend, another team from VA making their debut at DMV Live, and it’s his versatility as a big man that has coaches very interested. He’s highly skilled as an inside-out threat as he can really pass on the perimeter and will fit a Princeton or five-out style very well, he can post in the paint and finishes well over the shoulder and he’s an excellent outlet passer as well. He can make shots from multiple levels and is a very smart and smooth player at his position.
Bryson Wilson Bryson Wilson 6'5" | SF St Stephen’s And St Agnes | 2023 State VA | 6’5” WF | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes
When it comes to guys with long term potential, you won’t find many that are more intriguing than Wilson who has great size on the wing and is very explosive athlete as well. He plays well above the rim consistently and uses his length and athleticism to rebound well, he can put it on the deck and get downhill and he has tons of potential on the defensive end moving forward. He’s a player who has a lot of tools now and still has a lot of room to get better moving forward.
