There was tons of talent in both the 17U and 16U division, and we’ll take a look at them starting with part two featuring some of the top 2023 prospects in attendance.
Skylar Smith | 6’2” WG | Higher Level 17U 2023
Smith was a breakout performer for Higher Level at the event, as the 6’2” wing out of Colgan was the top scorer for a very balanced team. He showed good shot making ability from deep off the catch, he was a good secondary ball handler who could handle pressure and attack closeouts and finish around the rim and he moves well off the basketball to get open and make shots.
Jaden Walker | 5’10” PG | Team Richmond 17U 2023
Walker was huge for Team Richmond in their close win over VA Premier , as the 5’10” guard showed a mix of craft and shot making ability that makes him one of the most underrated guards in the Richmond area. While he isn’t the biggest Walker can really drill it from deep off the catch, he is slippery and can get in the lane and finish in the midrange and defensively he can be a pest that can bother ball handlers and shoot passing lanes.
Leland Coleman Leland Coleman 6'6" | SF Trinity Episcopal | 2023 State VA | 6’6” WF | Team Richmond 17U 2023
Coleman continues his breakout summer with Team Richmond and should be a player that coaches watch for in June with Trinity Episcopal and in July. The 6’6” wing is a big time athlete who can play above the rim and does so often, he rebounds well and defends multiple positions and he has improved in his ability to create and make shots off the bounce too. He’s a high academic and high character kid who has tons of upside moving forward and it’s starting to click for him now.
Reuben McEachern Reuben McEachern 6'1" | PG Carmel | 2023 State VA | 5’10” PG | VA Havoc 17U 2023
McEachern was great for Havoc as they battled Team Loaded to the brink, and he did a great job setting the table on both ends and creating plays for himself and others. He runs the show as he controls the tempo and makes great decisions both in the half court and in transition, he has the dog to him on both ends of the floor and makes all the hustle plays and he picks his spots and scores it efficiently from multiple levels. He’s the type of player who will make any team better and he will do whatever it takes to help his team win.
Curtis Blair | 6’5” WF | VA Havoc 17U 2023
The Liberty commit went toe-to-toe with many familiar faces as he used to play for Team Loaded, and he showed he’s one of the top shot makers in RVA if not the entire state as he hit an array of difficult shots that were very high level. He’s very good at using his body to bump defenders and create space to get to his pull-up, he has great balance and body control to be able to fade and step back and stay on balance and he can get his shot off with little to no space. He’s an excellent late shot clock option and he’s very tough to guard in one-on-one situations.
Timayahs Bracey Timayahs Bracey 6'0" | SG Hargrave | 2023 VA | 5’10” WG | VA Havoc 17U 2023
Bracey struggled a little bit to open the event but he stepped it up in their second game against Assist Black and showed why he’s one of the more underrated guards in the Richmond area. He’s a dead eye shooter from deep with deep range, he makes teams pay for leaving him open or going under screens and he’s really improved in his ability to create off the bounce and finish in the midrange. He has continually improved over the past few years and he’s a competitor who brings it every time he’s on the floor.
