The NCHSAA State Playoffs are approaching the Final Four this weekend as the Eastern and Western Regionals headline the Saturday schedule. Here’s a preview of the NCHSAA 1A West Final.
Hayesville (26-0) vs. Winston-Salem Prep (25-2) – 6 PM
Hayesville is one of two remaining teams still unbeaten in the NCHSAA Playoffs as the Regional Finals weekend approaches. At 26-0, they’ll look to keep their perfect season alive against a talented Winston-Salem Prep squad. Jake McTaggart Jake McTaggart 6'6" | C Hayesville | 2022 State NC and Kolbe Ashe Kolbe Ashe 6'0" | PG Hayesville | 2022 State NC have given opponents all they can handle all-year long while their supporting cast of Ethan Hooper, Logan Caldwell and Asher Brown have been the perfect role players for the junior duo to work off of as well. Mctaggart is a walking double-double while Ashe can get going in a hurry on the perimeter. They’re a well-coached group that should give the Phoenix all they can handle this Saturday.
Winston-Salem Prep is led by the presence of Jamison Graves Jamison Graves 6'0" | CG Bishop McGuinness | 2023 State NC , Areon Matthews Areon Matthews 6'4" | SF Winston-Salem Prep | 2023 State NC and Yohance Connor Yohance Connor 6'3" | CG Combine Academy | 2026 State NC . Michael Jordan is also another prospect to keep an eye on with his ability to get hot in a hurry. They grinded out a much-needed victory over Bessemer City and top-scorer Randall Pettus Randall Pettus 6'2" | PG Bessemer City | 2023 State NC in the semifinals. Connor led all scorers with 18 points while Graves finished with 11, Matthews with 12 and Jordan with 15 points. They’re a squad that shares the ball well and has used a well-balanced attack to get this far. Look for them to spoil Hayesville’s unbeaten season this Saturday at AC Reynolds High.
