Khalil Williams-Diggins did not let his foot off the gas pedal in this one. The quick and crafty lead guard displayed a competitive edge, and made winning plays down the stretch on both ends.
BEST PLAY
Daryl Mackey Jr. intercepted a pass late, and put an exclamation point on West Potomac’s win with a fastbreak dunk. This exciting play virtually clinched the district championship for the Wolverines.
BEST OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | KHALIL WILLLIAMS-DIGGINS | WEST PO ‘17
KWD scored a game-high 22 points on 7 of 13 from the field. The unsigned senior hit 4 of 8 from beyond the arc, and dished out a game-high 4 assists.
BEST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | KHALIL WILLIAMS-DIGGINS | WEST PO ‘17
KWD exhibited tremendous quickness, and commendable defensive instincts. He swiped a game-high 5 steals, and recorded a handful of deflecdtions.
BEST UNDER-THE-RADAR PERFORMANCE | JASON AIGNER | WTW ‘17
Jason Aigner did the little things to keep his team within reach. The senior battled down low with bigger players, and hit several tough shots from all over the court.
BEST GUY OFF THE BENCH | BRIAN PEIRCE | WTW ‘17
Brian Peirce did a bit of everything in this one. The crafty senior, recorded 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.
BEST REBOUNDER | DA’JON BELLFIELD | WEST PO ‘17
Da’Jon Bellfield pulled down a game-high 9 rebounds. The long-limbed, athletic forward can also elevate in a hurry and contest shots at the rim.
BEST PASSER | NATE SPURLOCK | WTW ‘18
Nate Spurlock once again showcased his unique playmaking ability at 6’7. The lefty is always looking to free open a teammate with an accurate lead pass, and is quite comfortable handling the ball under pressure.
BEST CATCH AND SHOOT GUY | JASON AIGNER | WTW ‘17
Once he crosses half-court, Jason Aigner absolutely must be accounted for on the perimeter. The CNU commit drilled a shot from the volleyball line late, and hit a couple of other tough step-back treys.
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | DARYL MACKEY JR. | WEST PO ‘19
Daryl Mackey Jr. was quite clearly the best young prospect in this game, and he especially showed why in the third quarter. After an uncharacteristically quiet first half, Mackey turned it up in the second stanza to finish up with 22 points (7/16 FG, 7/7 FT), 6 rebounds, and 2 steals.
