Recruiting Report: Ryan Martin (2018)
Fremd has had an outstanding season. A big part of that has been the play of their 2018 guard Ryan Martin. The junior has nice feel for the game and what pace to play at in certain situations. Plays some both on and off the ball. He is at his best when beating his man off the dribble and getting to the cup. Slick handles and slippery getting through the defense. Quality passer that plays with confidence.
Martin spoke about how he feels his junior year went.
“I have been averaging 9 points per game. Facilitating, getting into the paint, and hitting the three. But my main role has been to be the top defender and work to shut down the other team’s top scorer.”
He spoke about the improvements in his game.
“Definitely my three point shot and decision making both on and off the ball.”
The junior broke down what he feels his strengths are.
“A smart guard who can play on and off the ball and make the right play whether passing or scoring. Also bring toughness on the defensive end.”
He will once again play with the Rebels this spring on the grassroots circuit.
“I’m looking forward to playing with Raekwon Drake and Tyronn Mosley and last year’s team. I do know that we will be on the Adidas circuit again and I really want to get after it for my last AAU season. Show coaches what I can do and play against the best competition out there.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“North Dakota State sent a couple letters. Elon sent one. I’ve emailed with Brown. All nothing major though. Just to see how’s the season going after they saw me over last summer.”
He told us what he will be looking for in a school.
“High academic for sure that has pre-med program and a solid basketball program that’s a good environment for me.”
