As a citizen of Nebraska and a lifetime student of the game of basketball, I can honestly say I’m proud of all the teams/players who compete in "The Good Life" state! The 60th Annual Metro Holiday Basketball Tournament concluded the evening of December 31st, crowning the Omaha Westside Warriors the tournament champions of the Omaha Metro Conference.

After a thrilling two days of tournament play, the final matchup for the title would be between the Bellevue West Thunderbirds and the Westside Warriors. It would be a fairly close match-up between the two teams. The 3rd quarter was the determining factor in Omaha Westside’s 76-68 victory, outscoring the Thunderbirds 28 to 20 in the third period. Bellevue West guard [player_tooltip player_id="1013209" first="Josiah" last="Dotzler"] (Game High 24 points) and the Thunderbirds put up one heck of a battle but would be shot down. [player_tooltip player_id="1013207" first="Tate" last="Odvody"] (Westside Warriors) had the most important performance. Odvody is a player who simply understands how to play the game when to swing the ball, and the right moment to slash to the basket. [player_tooltip player_id="890571" first="Chandler" last="Meeks"] played solid. Meeks did all the right things and played with accuracy all across the board. The Warriors look to push forward to the state finals.

Omaha Westside Warriors Varsity Basketball 60th Annual Metro Holiday Basketball Tournament Champions

Head Coach Jim Simons

Assistant Coaches: Beau Schwenka, Dylan Travis, Jimmy Scott, Derek Porter, Matt Roubicek

Athletic Trainers: Shawn Campbell, Kelly Seevers

Student Managers: Daniella Hernandez, Madilynn Miles

#2 [player_tooltip player_id="1013234" first="Caleb" last="Benning"] 2 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists

#3 [player_tooltip player_id="1235585" first="Charlie" last="Davis"] 3 points, (1 for 1 3pt FG)

#4 [player_tooltip player_id="1013235" first="CJ" last="Mitchell"] 1 points 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal

#5 [player_tooltip player_id="890571" first="Chandler" last="Meeks"] 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal

#10 [player_tooltip player_id="1019017" first="Logan" last="Wilson"] 14 points, 5 rebounds 2 assists, 1 block

#11 [player_tooltip player_id="890572" first="Reggie" last="Thomas"] 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists

#12 [player_tooltip player_id="1052920" first="Malik" last="Crawford"] DNP

#13 [player_tooltip player_id="1013207" first="Tate" last="Odvody"] 20 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals

#20 [player_tooltip player_id="890584" first="Payson" last="Gillespie"] 8 points, 3 rebounds , 1 assist, 2 steals

#21 Charlie Blum Senior Guard (HT 5’11’) DNP

#23 [player_tooltip player_id="1211381" first="Kevin" last="Stubblefield"] 6 points 1 rebound, 1 assist, 2 steals

Bellevue West Thunderbirds Varsity Basketball 60th Annual Metro Holiday Basketball Tournament Runner-Up

Head Coach Doug Woodard

Assistant Coaches: Steve Klein, Matt Lauritsen, Jason Sanderson, Matt Henry, Scott Blackwell, Brandon Ashelford

Athletic Trainers: Shannon Gier, Jeremy Langer

#3 [player_tooltip player_id="1018723" first="TK" last="Barnett"] 5 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist

#4 [player_tooltip player_id="1267143" first="Steven" last="Poulicek"] DNP

#5 [player_tooltip player_id="1031436" first="Evan" last="Inselman"] 2 points, 2 rebounds

#10 [player_tooltip player_id="1253967" first="Eldon" last="Turner"] N/A

#12 [player_tooltip player_id="1013231" first="Jaden" last="Jackson"] 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal

#14 [player_tooltip player_id="1013217" first="Jaxon" last="Stueve"] 4 rebounds, 1 assist

#20 [player_tooltip player_id="1211386" first="Jadyn" last="Cascio-Jensen"] 2 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal

#22 [player_tooltip player_id="1013209" first="Josiah" last="Dotzler"] GAME HIGH 24 points 4 reb, 3 assists, 2 steals

#24 John Mitchell * Junior Guard (HT 6’0") 9 points. 1 rebound

# 30 Logan Toman * Junior Guard (HT 6’0") DNP

# 32 Robert "Robbie" Garcia * Freshman Guard (HT 6’6") 2 points, 1 assists

#44 [player_tooltip player_id="1018806" first="William" last="Kyle"] 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals

#52 [player_tooltip player_id="1267129" first="Hudson" last="Ames"] DNP

60th Annual Metro Holiday Basketball All-Tournament Team

[player_tooltip player_id="1013207" first="Tate" last="Odvody"], [player_tooltip player_id="890571" first="Chandler" last="Meeks"], [player_tooltip player_id="1013209" first="Josiah" last="Dotzler"], [player_tooltip player_id="787647" first="Jasen" last="Green"], [player_tooltip player_id="890589" first="Jayden" last="Dawson"]
[caption id="attachment_1360468" align="alignnone" width="1024"] [player_tooltip player_id="1013209" first="Josiah" last="Dotzler"] & [player_tooltip player_id="890571" first="Chandler" last="Meeks"] meet center court at the Baxter Arena in Omaha, Nebraska. Williams played with no fear. Solid ball-handler, playmaker, and scorer.

[player_tooltip player_id="1031437" first="Mason" last="Strong"] 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals. Mason continues to be a force for the Vikings. He played brilliantly in the 70-45 victory against the Huskies at the Baxter Arena.

[player_tooltip player_id="1235579" first="Rondale" last="Thomas"] 11 points of 5 for 8 from the field. Solid performance for Thomas.

Omaha Benson Bunnies

[player_tooltip player_id="890610" first="Antone" last="McNair"] Scored 14 points for Omaha Benson in the 9 point loss to the Patriots. Averaging 19 points per game this season. He also has a 3.9-grade point average and has a great attitude. McNair is currently in the weight room and transitioning into a point guard for the next level. "Tiger" has a crafty offensive attack and can score in bunches.

Cortez Gonzalaus also contributed 14 points. Cortez is a 6’4" left-handed forward that can shoot. He is really starting to catch a smooth rhythm. I suggest keeping an eye on Gonzalaus.

Millard South Patriots

[player_tooltip player_id="890602" first="Gage" last="Stenger"] 14 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, 2 blocks

[player_tooltip player_id="1013230" first="Will" last="Cooper"] 11 points, 6 rebounds
