Last season, Greenfield went 14-10 and will return their leading scorer along with an injection of talent from the freshman class. This is a talented group, especially in the backcourt, that will be able to spread people out and put up a ton of points. Let’s dive in to a preview of the Cougars.
First off, this may have been the most impressive high school workout I have been to so far leading up to the season. Not because of the talent level, but because of how much stuff Greenfield already has in offensively. Out of respect for Coach Meredith I won’t discuss what they were running, but for a high school team coming off of fall break in October to be able to run through their offensive playbook the way they did was extremely impressive. I spent five seasons as a Division III assistant and was sitting next to a Big East assistant at the workout and we both said that our players would not have been able to do what the Cougar players were doing. A major credit to the coaching staff and players for their ability to execute their offense.
Leading the way this season for Greenfield-Central will be junior guard Dylan Moles Dylan Moles 6'3" | PG Greenfield-Central | 2023 State IN . The talented 6’1″ scorer averaged 14.2 points per game as a sophomore and shot 44% from three-point range on 131 attempts. Moles can create his own shot off of the dribble and can obviously really, really shoot. He is poised for a big-time junior season. Helping Moles in the backcourt will be 6’3″ freshman Braylon Mullins Braylon Mullins 6'6" | SG Greenfield-Central | 2025 State #123 Nation IN . Mullins is one of the most skilled players in Indiana’s Class of 2025 and is ready to make a major varsity impact from day one. He will create a potent one-two punch in the Cougars backcourt. There is no play he cannot make on the offensive end. Incredibly crafty off of the dribble, showcases excellent body control on the way to the basket, and can flat out stroke it from deep.
If you are looking for a weakness on this Greenfield-Central team, size is the pretty clear place to start. There is a lack of a post presence and they likely won’t play anybody taller than 6’3″-6’4″. However, that will allow them to really space people out on the offensive end and create some matchup problems. The Cougars are going to live and die behind the three-point line. Along with the sharp-shooting skills of Moles and Mullins, Greenfield also returns the state’s leader in three-point percentage in 6’1″ senior Adam Lester. Lester knocked in 36 of 65 attempts for a 55% clip. Junior guard Tyler Kerkhof Tyler Kerkhof 6'1" | PG Greenfield-Central | 2023 State IN will help Greenfield from beyond the arc as well. Coming off of a strong AAU circuit, Kerkhof is poised to take on a much larger scoring role this season. As a team, the Cougars shot 38% from deep on about 6.7 makes per game last year. I would suspect that number to go up even higher this season.
Elsewhere on the roster, football players Joey Roland and Rashawn Street will be looked upon to bring veteran leadership and athleticism. The pair of seniors 5.5 and 3.4 points per game respectively as juniors and will provide depth on the perimeter. Via transfer from Indianapolis International, Greenfield-Central added senior Rune Carpenter-Jones. He is a super athletic wing that will play the role of a bigger guy for the Cougars due to such a lack of front court depth. Carpenter-Jones has two years of valuable varsity experience and averaged 8.2 points and 2.7 rebounds a year ago. He will definitely help this season. Lastly, sophomore Braden Robertson is the tallest Cougar at about 6’4″ that will provide a little height around the basket. Making the jump to varsity basketball is never an easy one and there will be some growing pains, but he looked solid in Tuesday’s workout.
Final Thought: Greenfield-Central will be an excellent offensive team that will be able to light it up from beyond the arc. However, the lack of height around the basket probably puts a cap on just how good they will be this season. Dylan Moles Dylan Moles 6'3" | PG Greenfield-Central | 2023 State IN is a potential Junior All-Star candidate, Braylon Mullins Braylon Mullins 6'6" | SG Greenfield-Central | 2025 State #123 Nation IN is one of the best freshman in the state, and there are several pieces that will contribute to one of the areas most dynamic backcourts. This will be a fun group to watch within their offensive system. Coach Meredith does a great job and will get the most out of the Cougars.
