In the class of 2022, the most talented position that state has is at the combo guard. If a college wants to find a guard they can plug in at the one and the two, they can find one in Louisiana. In this positional rankings review, we will take a look at the top 20 combo guards in Louisiana within the ’22 class. These players should be on the watch list of colleges near and far from the Boot.

Top Twenty

- [player_tooltip player_id="937608" first="Dorian" last="Finister"] (6’5" - Carver) - Finister has become the total package since embracing the defensive end fully. You cannot find a better guard with his talent level in Louisiana and he is still grow as a point guard. That is a scary thought.

- [player_tooltip player_id="1275269" first="Joseph" last="Manning"] (6’3" - Bossier) - Joe is a high level, two-way player. He has been the de facto point guard for Bossier and has been their best wing defender since his sophomore season. With his consistency from three improving, watch out for an explosive senior season.

- [player_tooltip player_id="1275312" first="Jordan" last="DeCuir"] (6’2" - Zachary) - Decuir spent the whole summer improving his skill level at the one. He is dynamite at attacking the rim from the off guard and he is a lockdown defender. The back-to-back title push for Zachary will help keep his game at a high level also.

- [player_tooltip player_id="1275290" first="Patrick" last="Mccraney"] (6’2" - Neville) - McCraney has grown from a pure shooter to fluidly playing the one and the two. He is a two-time district MVP who still plays with a chip on his shoulder to get better and to beat the best. I believe that is what makes him the player he is.

- [player_tooltip player_id="781856" first="Reginald" last="Stoner"] (6’1" - North Central) - Stoner is the best defender the state has at either guard position. He can get unbelivably hot from three and still has the ability to get to the rack. He should be fine stepping into the primary facilitator role for the Hurricanes this year.

- [player_tooltip player_id="781842" first="Alex" last="Hammond"] (6’2" - McMain) - The 4A title game is a silent killer when he is on the hardwood. He is good at each guard position and knows how to play the game the right way. Hammond takes and makes big shots when the game is on the line. Just a clutch player.

- [player_tooltip player_id="783260" first="De’vondrake" last="Arvie"] (6’2" - Beau Chene) - Arvie is a stud on both ends of the floor. He loves to play man-to-man defense and seems to get joy out of it. Arvie is a mid-range assassin on offense and he can get to the rim when need be. Prime example of a two-way player.

- [player_tooltip player_id="981603" first="Willie" last="Anderson"] (6’1" - Carver) - Anderson plays the one at a high level and remains very effective when he slides over. He is a combo that does whatever his team needs to win. Anderson will guard the best other team’s best guy and will not score if that is what it takes.

- [player_tooltip player_id="981614" first="Bryce" last="Weinmunson"] (6’2" - Mandeville) - Bryce can stroke it from deep and has become the best shooter amongst this group of combo guards. Spending some time handling the one this summer will help him be better for Mandeville during the season. Always gives 100%.

- [player_tooltip player_id="932860" first="Nick" last="Maryland"] (6’2" - Simsboro) - Maryland has a college body already and is uber-athletic. He is a high level defender who can cause momentum changes by himself. Nick is still evolving as a point and has improved from his sophomore season. He is very underrated.

- [player_tooltip player_id="1127357" first="Zach" last="Fenn"] (6’2" - St. Paul’s) - Fenn is the best playmaker on the St. Paul’s roster. He can score from every level and also defend the rim as a guard. His athleticism is what sets him apart and makes him the player he is.

- [player_tooltip player_id="1270191" first="Leland" last="Smith"] (6’3" - Edna Karr) - The New Orleans guard can really stroke it from three and is better on the defensive end than people think. Because of his ability to pass and score, he is really dangerous with the ball in his hands.

- [player_tooltip player_id="932848" first="Marquarius" last="Johnson"] (6’1" - Southwood) - After a summer of uncertainty, the Southwood guard heads into his senior season as one of the best guards in 1-5A. He can score in bunches but revisiting his sophomore season when loved defense will make him ultra dangerous.

- [player_tooltip player_id="981495" first="Jordan" last="Crawford"] (6’2" - Simsboro) - Crawford has become a point guard teams are interested in over the summer. His defense is exceptional and he is very good finishing in transition. Making the 3 more consistently will take his recruiting to the next level.

- [player_tooltip player_id="1208076" first="Jaquevius" last="Thompson"] (6’3" - Caldwell Parish) - Thompson put the north Louisiana schools on notice during summer play that he is a hard guard for anyone. He can score at all three levels and is his team’s primary distributor. There is not much he cannot do.

- [player_tooltip player_id="1180576" first="Andri" last="Lewis"] (6’3" - Woodlawn-S’port) - Lewis plays with a forwards mentality in a guard’s body. He can defend the perimeter and the paint at a high level. Offensively, he is the Knights best facilitator. Getting to the rim and the foul line is what he does best.

- [player_tooltip player_id="1275352" first="Tony" last="Walker"] (6’3" - Northlake Christian) - He will be the primary playmaker and scorer for his team. He is athletic and will dunk on defenders at a moments notice. Very good all-around player.

- [player_tooltip player_id="981605" first="Preston" last="Bourda"] (6’1" - Ellender) - Bourda can hound guards defensively and will create turnovers with his "up in your grill" defense. His perimeter shooting is very good and he can draw and kick with the best of them. He is definitely a "3 and D" player.

- [player_tooltip player_id="981598" first="Car’tracus" last="Mitchell"] (6’2" - Rapides) - Mitchell may be the best guard in Central Louisiana this coming season. He can play both guard positions and can score from all three levels. Mitchell has flown under the radar but will be a guard that will be heard this season.

- [player_tooltip player_id="1270245" first="D’Anthony" last="Kimble"] (6’3" - Zachary) - One of the best players in 1A that no one knows about. He can rebound, face-up, facilitate, and score which is rare on any level. His outside shot needs to be better but he can dominate a game in other facets that make him attractive.

From class B to class 5A, there is a combo guard who can play on the next level. Look for these players to be some of the mostly hotly recruited as the season begins.
