Post & Pivot hosted 48 games in two days (October 2nd & 3rd) at the Haverford School and neither day disappointed. Teams from Southeast PA plus a few from Jersey and Delaware battled in 2-4 games as they prepare for the start of their regular seasons next month. Check out a hand-full of the ones who impressed.

Lincoln

The Railsplitters from Hunting Park probably had the most consistent showing across the weekend, including a takedown of Roman Catholic on Sunday. Coach Lindsey’s squad pressed and trapped 90 feet, all day. Offensively, Matt Williams (6’5 W/F 2022) led the way scoring 15, 13, and 12, finishing above and around defenders. Newcomer [player_tooltip player_id="991205" first="Aymere" last="Thomas"] (6’6 F 2022) amassed countless rebounds, steals, and blocks to go along with the 9.0 points/g. Khrystopher Murray (6’5 G 2022) came up big for them against Roman with 11 points, exploding to the basket and converting acrobatic finishes. Tamir Powell (6’3 G 2022), [player_tooltip player_id="1185939" first="Rashan" last="Locke-Hicks"] (5’7 G 2023), Jameer Troutt (6’3 G 2023), and Rodney Skelton (6’7 F 2024) were all major contributors as well.

Bonner-Prendie

The new-look Friars are fun to watch with their combination of youth and experience. [player_tooltip player_id="991275" first="Shakur" last="Smith"] (6’4 W 2022) flashed in transition and with his cutting off-ball versus Rocktop (10 pts). Touri "Deuce" Ketner (6’6 F 2024) got warmed up in that game (9 pts) and really went to work against Collegium Charter (14 pts). His interior scoring and mobility went a long way for the Friars. [player_tooltip player_id="1186010" first="Baasil" last="Saunders"] (5’10 G 2023), [player_tooltip player_id="1130841" first="Kyree" last="Latimer"] (6’2 G 2024), Randy Cooper-Mukoro (6’2 G 2023) impressed alongside them.

Father Judge

Judge’s cadre of interchangeable guards were intriguing to watch. Georgia-native Kyle Jones Jr (6’3 G 2023) dropped 17 points versus Abington with his burst and down-hill scoring. Paul King (6’4 G 2023) added in another 13 that game. [player_tooltip player_id="1123891" first="Laquan" last="Byrd"] (6’3 G 2024) was aggressive driving to the paint for another 9 points. Jalen Flowers (6’1 G 2022), Anthony Lilley (6’7 F 2024), and Ernest Shelton (6’0 G 2023) held their own too.

Carver

Carver got off to a slow start, but bounced back with a game-winning put-back from [player_tooltip player_id="1200787" first="Denzel" last="Figueroa"] (6’5 F 2022). Zel did a little bit of everything and a ton defending. His team defense was only second to the 18 points he scored. Taimar Stubbs’s (5’11 G 2022) paint touches were crucial. The 9 points he put up came from him getting to the rim plus drawing fouls. The addition of Nile Mosby (6’4 F 2023) can’t be understated. He gave them more size inside with the way he cleaned the glass (8 points in the game). They came back Sunday and split both games again, however they played more consistent. Cerek Sargent-Thomas (5’7 G 2022), Mustafa Sabil (6’0 G 2022), and Anthony Brown Jr (6’2 G 2024) played key roles for them as well.

Constitution

The Generals competed on Saturday and Sunday too, going 3-1 on the weekend with [player_tooltip player_id="991231" first="Jacob" last="Beccles"] (6’3 G 2022) and Lamar Glover (5’10 G 2022) leading their attack. Beccles averaged around 20 points, unleashing back-breaking dunks in the most humble way possible. Glover played more below the rim, bull-dozing through defenders, going off for 25 against Rocktop. They both shot well from deep. Jamal Carr (6’5 F 2022) and Carron Green (6’5 W 2022) were also instrumental to their success.

Lower Merion

Days after pledging his commitment to Penn St, [player_tooltip player_id="991216" first="Demetrius" last="Lilley"] (6’9 C 2022) backed it up with a dominant weekend averaging over 20 points in their four games. He got it done banging in the low post, cutting off-ball, and draining the occasional pull up three. [player_tooltip player_id="991391" first="Sam" last="Brown"] (6’1 G 2023) showed a ton of progress running the point, utilizing ball screens as another way to create spaces, and caught fire versus Archbishop Ryan with 28 points. Peter Gribbin (6’1 G 2022), Jayden Shippen (6’1 G 2022), andSam Wright (6’1 G 2023) contributed to their 4 victories.

Trenton Catholic

They split their games on Sunday but TCPA really grinded at P&P and another event this weekend. Jameel Morris (6’1 G 2022) and Mike “Deuce’” Jones (6’0 G 2024) balanced out one another well. They both got theirs off-the-dribble but Jameel (19 pts/g) was relentless getting to the cup, while Deuce (17.5 pts/g) was hot from three. Erik Bush (G 2023) made baskets throughout the day too.

Individual Performances

[player_tooltip player_id="991217" first="Kobe" last="Magee"] (6’4 G 2022) had a rough outing in their first game Saturday and bounced back in versus Lower Merion. The Drexel commit used his long arms and stride to attack the rim as he traded buckets with Lilley in a game that went down to the wire. His team couldn’t bring home the win, but Magee put up 21 points in the effort.

Archbishop Ryan got down early on Sunday to Lower Merion. But [player_tooltip player_id="991324" first="Luke" last="Boyd"] (6’1 G 2022) ignited their comeback attempt with his energy and threes. Luke finished with 21 points using his scoring ability which has rounded out since the spring. That set the tone for his 17 points outing in their win in game 2.

[player_tooltip player_id="1189096" first="Jalil" last="Bethea"] (6’3 G 2024) scored 24 points on Sunday, making EIGHT threes, in a single game. His one-motion release was consistent where he was shooting off-the-catch or pulling up. He was calculated as he ran the wing in transition and moved without the ball, but, it was like he was unconscious out there (in a good way).
