College Basketball Prospects of America will be conducting a weekend full of skills development and games until mid-November. Four competitive tournaments, including high school and AAU teams, tip-off September 25-26 with the Adidas Slam Fest. A variety of varsity level teams and players will pack the gym at Sewickley Academy during these tournaments. Here at Prep Hoops PA, we give you a quick glance at some of the talented performers that will step out on the hardwood every weekend.
The main attraction for the Prospects Fall League will be the extremely talented senior, Adou Thiero Adou Thiero 6'4" | CG Quaker Valley | 2022 State PA from Quaker Valley High School. This combo guard has grown to roughly 6’4″ and recovered completely from a season-ending leg injury last high school season. With his newfound length, Adou is now a force penetrating the lane and finishing at the basket. Look for some electrifying slam dunks coming off his defensive pressure (steals) or in transition. As a truly committed basketball player, his recruitment went to another level this summer. With a few division 1 offers already on the table, he has the opportunity to become one of the most heavily recruited players in the area. Adou averaged 22 points per game last high school season while shooting at a consistent percentage from the three-point line, as well as the free-throw line. I predict a significant rise in his points per game output as he becomes the senior leader with his sidekick Markus Frank Markus Frank 6'5" | PF Quaker Valley | 2022 State PA .
As mentioned to be a compliment to Adou Thiero Adou Thiero 6'4" | CG Quaker Valley | 2022 State PA , the 6’6″ wing forward senior, Markus Frank Markus Frank 6'5" | PF Quaker Valley | 2022 State PA will look to take his game to another level this high school season. Another Quaker Valley hooper who has the talent to explode his senior year on the hardwood. Mostly a post player during his career, Markus has worked extremely hard to develop his perimeter game while adding quality drives down the lane to his arsenal. He always could finish at the rim on offensive rebound putbacks and post moves, but establishing a more balanced game will make him even more of a match-up problem for opponents. Markus is a difference-maker on the defensive end of the court as well. He was a rim protector last year with about 4 blocked shots per game, plus over 10 rebounds per contest. His 20 points per game average will definitely increase this winter, as will his college recruitment. Look for Markus and Adou to “light up” the scoreboard for Quaker Valley and develop into the toughest 1-2 punch in the WPIAL.
A former competitor that joins forces with Adou and Markus this Fall is junior, Damon Astorino Damon Astorino 6'2" | CG Eden Christian Academy | 2023 State PA from Eden Christian Academy. A transfer from Ambridge this summer, the 6’2″ combo guard has been a model of consistency during his first two high school seasons. Averaging over 22 points per game, while shooting 90% from the free-throw line this past winter caught the attention of a variety of division 2 and 3 colleges. Damon has an extremely high basketball IQ and is a consummate team player. His ability to play both ends of the floor is an attractive asset for this young man. As he transitions his game to a new gymnasium, don’t look for his production to change. I predict Damon will continue to be one of the top players in the class of 2023 for the Pittsburgh region.
Closing out the prospect watch will be 6’0″ junior, Noah Jordan from Quaker Valley High School. This former junior varsity player will break onto the scene as a varsity player this upcoming season. He has the ability to create his own shot opportunities while helping make his teammates better throughout the game. Also, 5’10″ freshman, Rocco Luchette from Eden Christian Academy will be a young contributor to his team. His ball-handling and passing skills make him a difficult player to guard in the half-court set, as well as in transition.
