The South Dakota 2022 rankings will be released early next week. Who are some of the new names that will be making an appearance? PHD walks you through the major break through names today.

[player_tooltip player_id="1265960" first="Angok" last="Akot"] of Sioux Falls Washington/Sacred Hoops. At 6’7 Akot has the tools that scholarship programs look for. He’s long and agile at his size which is already a very rare thing for players at 6’7. In addition, Akot has ball handling skills that continue to develop allowing him to break down opposing bigs. And when he gets to the rim, Akot can finish with two hands over the top with a dunk or he can lift above the help. The jumper is solid and there is some back to the basket game to him too. Prospect wise this is a top 3-4 player in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id="812186" first="David" last="Alpers"] of Sioux Falls O’Gorman/Sacred Hoops. At 6’6 and 225 pounds Alpers has a future with the South Dakota State football team. He’s already making major headlines during a young football season. He is also a top basketball player in the state and I’m not sure why he wasn’t listed in previous rankings but he should have been. Back to the basket Alpers is a force as people can’t knock him off his base. If hoops was his choice I could see him being a regularly recruited frontcourt player at the NAIA or D3 level of play.

[player_tooltip player_id="1271445" first="Juron" last="Adams"] of Tiospa Zina. There is a scoring feel to this 6’1 guard that is unique and special at the same time. Adams is one of the players that can fill up a stat sheet in a number of ways as he keeps defenders off balance throughout the game. Between the quick attack move and the dribble separation, defenders have a hard time knowing what way to move with Adams and Juron pounces on that for point production. He had some explosive junior season games and was an all league player.

[player_tooltip player_id="1271446" first="Sam" last="Rohlfs"] of Aberdeen Central/Sacred Hoops Bertram. At the moment Sam is a quarterback piling up the yardage in the air and on the ground. His future is running track and field at SDSU. Sam likely could have played one of three different sports in college which includes basketball. Rohlfs has the all around agility combined with being a heady player at 6’3 so he does a lot for his team. Last year it was a 13pt/5r/5ast season and even more could be expected this winter.

[player_tooltip player_id="1276564" first="Sellyck" last="McManus"] of Chamberlain. At 6’7 and a low post player, McManus progressively got better all winter. As the comfort came, the footwork was better on both ends. The hands to catch, to finish, to board with timing showed off more with experience. And once that came together numbers started bursting into the state sheet. Double-doubles went from the highlight to more of a norm. This culminated in a fantastic state tournament showing for McManus leaving everybody excited for his senior year.

[player_tooltip player_id="1273980" first="Noah" last="Price"] of Hanson/Pentagon Schooolers. Price is a 6’4 player that gets up and down the court very well and has a comfort finishing at the cup or facing up to play (had some big shooting games this weekend). His athletic ability really grabs the attention as he is quick to the rim and can make some incredible plays with a couple steps to the rim for a board, bucket, or a defensive cover.

[player_tooltip player_id="968169" first="Mason" last="Schelske"] of Wessington Springs. Last year Mason put up a very strong 14 points and 8 rebounds a game playing next to another big in [player_tooltip player_id="975504" first="Jacob" last="Messmer"] that averaged a double-double. Mason is an excellent pitcher who also at 6’6 and 220 pounds plays tight end. The size and agility are there for Mason to also be a top prospect and player on the hardwood.

[player_tooltip player_id="1273981" first="Hayden" last="Arndt"] of Sioux Falls Roosevelt/Pentagon Schoolers. Arndt is a 6’3 guard that competes at a high level. He is what you would call a “three and d” player. Must be found on the perimeter when his feet are set and defensively he where the team needs him consistently.
