Comments from coach Caleb Luckow

"Our 16’s group started where they left off from the year prior by playing an array of tough competition and finding success throughout the year playing together as one unit. We hung our hat on playing man-to-man help side team defense and really focused on guarding ball screens. We knew that we could score with anyone but once we understood that the margin of error vs quality teams is minimal and we had to give multiple efforts to be tougher defensively is when we really took our game to new heights as we were able to dictate the tempo."

ROSTER

[player_tooltip player_id="963742" first="Isaac" last="Bruns"] (2023) |6-3 G| Dakota Valley - Strength is getting to his spots on the floor and rising up on his pull-up game. Would argue that he is the best shooter in South Dakota and scorer. Keeps on developing his overall game on both ends of the floor and challenges himself more often than not to guard the opposing team’s best player.

[player_tooltip player_id="963741" first="Taylen" last="Ashley"] (2023) |6-0 G| Sioux Falls Jefferson - Overall improved as a floor general - leader. He continued to be a big-time student of the game and learning to take what the defense gives you. Whether it was attacking to the rim or to the mid-range area and making a play. Balancing staying aggressive as a creator/facilitator to get himself and his teammates going. As he went, we went.

[player_tooltip player_id="963748" first="Kaden" last="Year"] (2023) |6-5 G/F| Sioux Falls Roosevelt - This spring and summer, he embraced a new role as one of our go-to guys and became one of our strongest offensive threats. Inside/Out player and very versatile. Can basically if needed play 1 through 5 which is great to have as a coach. He also was a much-improved rebounder from the previous year which stems from his work in the weight room getting stronger. Just scratching the surface of his potential and possible ceiling

[player_tooltip player_id="956890" first="Jake" last="Wallin"] (2023) |6-7 F| South O’Brien (IA) - Anchors our interior on both ends and is not afraid to play physically. Improved his shooting on the outside where he can step out and help stretch the defense especially utilizing the ball screen. Excellent passing big-man almost to a fault where he should have looked to be more aggressive for himself to score. But a great and unselfish teammate.

[player_tooltip player_id="956881" first="Keaten" last="Bonderson"] (2023) |6-0 G| Gehlen Catholic (IA) - One word when it comes to Keaten is an athlete. Great bounce to his game and at a moment’s notice can be at the rim and sometimes finish above. Taking his game to the next level as he plays with this group and has to compete. Really improved on the defensive end from the previous year.

[player_tooltip player_id="963774" first="Reed" last="Rus"] (2023) |6-4 G/F| Mt. Vernon - Our energy guy/enforcer off the bench. Does a little bit of everything for us on both ends and consistent is the one word that comes to mind. We knew exactly what we were getting from Reed in terms of energy and always found himself in the middle of the action and making plays.

[player_tooltip player_id="963824" first="Blake" last="Volmer"] (2023) |6-2 G| Winner - Filling up the stat sheet - doing a little of everything at a high level...he was kind of a swiss army knife. As we got into the summer months, his confidence only grew on the offensive end as a scorer which he is more than capable of. Excited to see his continued growth this winter leading into next spring and summer

[player_tooltip player_id="963762" first="Brian" last="LaRoche Jr"]. |6-0 G| Lower Brule - Was our backup PG and played that role really well. He thrived in a fast pace, full-court games and got better with handling body contact as he played at a higher level.

[player_tooltip player_id="963785" first="Carson" last="Kirwan"] (2023) |6-3 G| Castlewood - Tremendous athlete who was another player who did a lot of the little things that go unnoticed on a stat sheet but are needed to help teams be successful. Started playing with more confidence and attacking to use his athleticism.

[player_tooltip player_id="1227935" first="Gage" last="Gasca"] (2023) |6-6 F| Sioux Falls Washington - Much improved player all around as he learned to play against the more physical competition. Very long and athletic....a lot of untapped potential and saw glimpses of it throughout our season. As he adds some muscle and weight, that will speed up his development as a basketball player.
